The month of October is often accompanied by the multitudes of Halloween stereotypes, such as ghosts, witches, candy, pumpkins, and so much more. The thoughts of Halloween costumes often override the remembrance of one of the most important characteristics of October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). NBCAM is the annual international health campaign held every October to increase cancer awareness around the world and raise money to increase the quality of cancer research, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. In order to raise money, events are held all around the world as the color pink shines from every building. Some of the most common fundraisers include The National Race for the Cure, Breast Cancer Today, and Susan G Komen 3 Day “For the Cure.” Each of these are walking or running events that raises significant amounts of money each year and are highly influential inĀ  raising awareness and making money. Breast Cancer Today includes various two day walks in places such as Atlanta and Missouri. Susan G Komen 3 Day “For the Cure” is a 60 mile walk that raises a ton of money for cancer research and occurs in many cities around the United States.

However, just because national organizations are raising money for the cure, that doesn’t mean we students can’t help out too. This October, instead of being concerned only with your costume, help raise awareness for NBCAM. Go to walks or runs. Attend fundraisers. And most importantly, Save the Ta-tas!
