NFL Draft Review

After a 3 day stint of locks, shots in the dark, and just outright horrible picks how has the NFL shaken up following the 2024 NFL draft? Here are some notable additions:
NFL+Draft+Review

Marvin Harrison Junior, Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and more all went off the board breaking some previous draft records and shaking up the look of a few different teams. 14 straight offensive players were taken from pick 1-14 while 23 of the 32 picks were offensive players breaking the previous record of 19. It was a surprise to none as Caleb Williams went first overall to the Chicago Bears. The first pick of the draft that really threw people off was the Falcons selection at 8. After having a fairly successful offseason picking up big names like veteran QB Kirk Cousins to fill the ginormous gap that was present under center, the Falcons did not need much for the upcoming season. One thing they surely did not need was another QB after signing Cousins to a 4 year 180 Million dollar deal. Though, in typical Falcons fashion, they drafted Micheal Penix, QB out of Washington. Penix is a was an exceptional QB in college and has the potential to be in the NFL but the Falcons definitely have some things to figure out now with their stacked QB room. Generational WR talent Marvin Harrison JR. went to Arizona Cardinals at 4. For his sake all anyone can do is to pray for good QB play that will allow “Maserati Marv” to thrive. Malik Nabers was taken at 6 by the Giants, much like Harrison’s situation just hope that Daniel Jones doesn’t ruin his career as he was electric to watch in college at LSU. The Vikings elected to go with JJ McCarthy at the 10 pick, and by all means I hope he proves me wrong but this just feels like the Zach Wilson situation all too well as Taylor Swift would say. It would not be the most insane thing to go ahead and expect the Vikings to be on the hunt for a QB in the coming years. Similar story with the Broncos, although Bo Nix feels more likely to end up having a successful NFL career I still just do not see it. Expect them to continue to search for a QB as this was NOT the answer, and although I hope I am wrong I do not think Zach Wilson will be either. Brock Bowers went to the Las Vegas Raiders at 14, expect him to be great for years to come barring injuries, no surprise there. Two time Super Bowl defending champs traded up to pick 28 to get their guy this year. Xavier Worthy could be deadly on any team with never seen before speed, but pairing him with Patrick Mahomes almost feels unfair for the rest of the league. The 49ers continued their theme of drafting diverse skill positions as they took Ricky Pearsall. This felt like a bit of a reach considering the receivers that were still on the board preformed better than Pearsall such as Legette and Coleman. Many teams added necessary pieces to further their respective goals this season but there was not an outright winner of the draft like there have been in years past, that being said the Bears will definitely be the most improved team from the draft, assuming Caleb Williams pans out to be the talent he was scouted as.
