You know her, you love her, Ms. Henley will be leaving AMHS after this year and retiring. She is notorious at AMHS for her classroom visits, help in the library, and teaching us how to use databases. I sat down with her and asked her to reflect on her time at AMHS.

Q: How many years have you been at magnet?

A: Well, since we moved into this building, so it has been since 2010.

Q: What has been your favorite part of being a member of the AMHS faculty?

A: Absolutely the students. I’m sure we all say that, but it’s true! You all are so wonderful that it’s truly the best part.

Q: What do you think you’re going to miss most about working at AMHS?

A: Do we all say this? *laughs* It really will be the students. It has been such a blessing to be around y’all. And you know we all have our issues and some students do better than others but for the most part the students here are terrific and I am going to miss that.

Q:Do you have a funniest moment from your eleven years at AMHS?

A: I don’t know about a funniest one but some of the most fun times I’ve had have been going on trips with the students and Mr. McCormick. I went on the snorkeling trip and then I went to Australia and New Zealand with a group of our kids and also Costa Rica. It was a wonderful fun experience.

Q: What are you looking forward to most in the future after leaving AMHS?
A: Not having to get up at 6 am. *laughs* Seriously, I am not a morning person and having to drive 45 minutes from James Island, I will not miss that. But I will miss the students and the faculty and the school. I am looking forward to having time to do what I want to do. I have a new grandchild in Texas so I’m going to see him in July. He’s not quite a year old and he’s adorable. My other son works in Ministry and has his own nonprofit where he helps the homeless here in Charleston so I’m hoping that I’ll be helping them.

Q: Do you have any parting advice for readers of the Talon or AMHS students in general?

A: Just keep being as wonderful as you are and pursuing your goals. I think you all are very goal oriented. My hope is in you: the young people.
