This Year’s Exchange Students

This+Years+Exchange+Students

This year, Carmen Román Espinal and Melker Annas are our exchange students here at Magnet. The Talon interviewed Carmen and Melker to find out about their lives in the U.S. so far.

Carmen is from Sevilla, Spain, and she is 17 years old. This is her first time in the U.S., but she has traveled to France, Portugal, Italy, and the UK. She says that school in Spain is relatively the same as school at AMHS, except that in Spain there is less technology and the teachers move from classroom to classroom just like the students. Back home, Carmen enjoys hanging out with her friends. Her favorite things about Spain are the people and the weather. She was surprised that the U.S. has much bigger cars than Spain. Carmen also told the Talon that hamburgers are her favorite American food, and the most difficult English word to pronounce is literature. Since school in Spain starts in late September, Carmen is leaving the U.S. on September 23–so she is excited to experience Homecoming Spirit Week and to enjoy the rest of her time at Magnet!

Meet Melker Annas, one of our foreign exchange students at Academic Magnet this year. Melker came to America from Malamo, Sweden, just three weeks ago and is already loving his time here. He plays the trombone and the guitar, and runs cross country for the Raptors. Melker chose to come to America with a goal of becoming fluent in English and experiencing more of what this world has to offer. Melker is looking forward to the rest of his time at Academic Magnet and is excited for the spring soccer season this year.
