Succession Season 4 Review

If you are not watching Succession what are you doing?

This article will include spoilers for Succession season 4, so be warned.

Succession season 4 has been amazing, shocking, and also very goofy. Only 4 episodes have come out so far but they have been insane. Of course episode 3 was the most shocking of all with Logan Roy’s very sudden death while Conner was supposed to have his wedding. I am still shocked that Logan Roy died and when Tom called Kendall to say that Logan was dying, I did not believe it

and thought it was him trying to get back at Roman, Shiv, and Kendall for winning the bidding war to buy Pierce. I think that the fact that it would be very plausible for Logan to fake his death to get back at his kids, is very telling of how horrible of a person Logan Roy is and how messed up their family is. Although when he died I was actually kind of sad, which was unexpected because I thought I was going to be more relieved and happy because he is so horrible. But seeing Shiv, Roman, and Kendall very vulnerable and in a state of shock and sadness when their dad died made me so sad and I must admit I started crying a little. Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, and Kieran Culkin (who play Kendall, Shiv, and Roman) did such an amazing job in episode 3 and their acting was incredible, they all deserve to get Emmys!

I also feel really bad for Conner this season, it seems that he has reached his breaking point and is starting to finally accept that Logan never really cared about him, which was very depressing. Shiv has been very compelling this season, from the first episode with her and Tom’s divorce to the latest episode where she was denied the CEO position, she has always been a very fascinating character. Thanks to the writing team of Succession being mostly women, all the female characters are extremely well written and I think Shiv is definitely the most interesting of the group. In the corporate world and even in her own family,  being a woman is always used against her, but then she uses that same sexism she experiences to put down other women. I think this relationship between all the female characters is so interesting and unique to Succession, and I hope it gets explored more as season 4 progresses, specifically between Jerry and Shiv. Of course I have to mention Tom and Greg. Greg is still funny and goofy as he always is, but since episode 4 he has started to annoy me, he just needs to shut up sometimes. But, I think Tom’s character is really great this season and it’s going to be interesting how he navigates Logan’s death since he risked all his relationships by siding with him. Overall, this season has been incredible and I can’t wait to see what Succession will become post-Logan death.

Here are some of my favorite quotes of the season so far, although I could not include all my favorites because the majority of them use profanity or are too inappropriate for The Talon.

“What if we got married underneath the Statue of Liberty with a brass band? Get a rapper. I don’t know. Jet packs and confetti guns and razor wire and bum fights and, you know, goody bags and hoopla and razzmatazz.”

  • Conner on his wedding

“It’s like Jaws. If everyone in Jaws worked for Jaws.”

  • Greg when Logan was at ATN

“Toss her another ten grand. Or a snow mobile and some teeth whitening vouchers.”

  • Roman to Conner after Willa left her wedding rehearsal dinner

“This is an incredibly delicate piece of diplomacy Greg. It’s like Israel-Palestine, except harder and much more important.”

  • Tom telling Greg he needs to tell Kerry she is not good enough to be an ATN anchor.

“It’s not your fault but he just finds you… visually aggravating right now.”

  • Tom to Greg

“I roped in a few mini-Gregs from the pig pen. A few little Greglets.”

  • Tom talking about his employees

“Will someone please think of the market?”

  • Roman after his father’s death

“We can get a funeral off the rack. We can do Reagan’s with tweaks.”

  • Kendall talking about his dad’s funeral

“Marcia’s not here. She’s in Milan, shopping. Forever.”

  • Kerry talking about Logan’s ex-wife

“What’s even in there? Flat shoes for the subway? Her lunch pail? Greg, it’s monstrous. It’s gargantuan. You could take it camping. You could slide it across the floor after a bank job.”

  • Tom on Greg’s dates handbag

“He looks like if Santa Claus was a hitman.”

  • Greg and Tom on Logan Roy

In conclusion, watch Succession because if you are not watching Succession what are you doing?
