I Made a Spotify Account for the Newspaper
Now you can listen along with all of your favorite music articles
As the title clearly suggests, I made I Spotify account for The Talon. I am sure you have noticed the influx of music articles the Talon produces each issue. Furthermore, I am sure you read each and every music article and really appreciate the hard work that our staff writers put into their articles. However, I am also 100% positive that you love the music articles so much but you feel like you’re being cheated because you can’t apply the author’s opinions or suggestions to your everyday life. In reality, that was all sarcasm and I’m sure none of what I just said is true but either way, I made a Spotify account with a playlist for every single music article that the Talon has produced this year for a total of 21 playlists. The way this works is pretty simple. I listed all of the playlists in bold and wrote a few words of commentary about each. I linked the Spotify playlist to the title of each playlist. I also linked the article that they came from to the name of the writer. I also chose a few songs off of each playlist that I enjoy the most.

Inés’s Ultimate Holiday Playlist according to Inés
Hat’s off to Inés (iineescaarrillo on Spotify) for this one. I think that most of us can agree, some more than others, that Christmas songs are timeless classics that will always hold a place in our hearts. However, I also think some of us can agree that these songs get old and it would be nice to have a playlist with some cozy holiday feeling songs without Mariah or Frank becoming a never-ending loop in our brains. Inés did just that and made a feel-good (slightly sad) playlist you can listen to during the holidays or any time of the year.

My picks: ‘tis the damn season by Taylor Swift, If We Make It Through December by Phoebe Bridges
Kid Cudi’s Man on The Moon: III according to Taryn and Inés
Inés and Taryn both took on this iconic moment in our musical history in two separate articles reviewing Kid Cudi’s third album. All of the songs on the album are included in the playlist and are ranked from best to worst according to the articles.
My picks: Lovin’ Me, Show Out
The Best of Blackpink according to Kristen and Jason
Maybe I’m just out of the loop but I had no idea who Blackpink was. So for those of you who don’t know, Blackpink is a South Korean all-girl group. I have never been into K-pop or BTS or anything of that genre so I didn’t know what I was going to experience when I played the songs Kristen and Jason picked but I was surprised and even discovered that I had heard “How You Like That.” So whether you’re a K-pop fan or a newbie I would say that this is a great place to listen to some good Korean bops. The songs in the playlist are ranked from great to good.
My picks: DDU-DU DDU-DU by Blackpink
Top Songs from the Top Albums of 2020 according to Lily Wolf (llwolf on Spotify)
World-renowned Red Bull drinker Lily Wolf stepped out from her energy drink niche to compose for us an article of the top albums of 2020. From this, I put together a playlist of all the songs from those albums that are mentioned in the article. It has some of my favorites on there so enjoy.
Lily’s Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/llwolf

My picks: Shampoo Bottles by Peach Pit, Blue World by Mac Miller
The Ultimate Fall Playlist according to Lily Wolf

Songs Ft. in “Ranking All of the Weeknd’s Albums” by Taryn
Songs on this playlist are all of the songs mentioned in Tayrn’s “Ranking All of the Weeknd’s Albums”. I don’t have much to say about the Weeknd. There are some good bops. I guess you could say they are in order from worst to best.
My pick: The Hills
Songs Ft. in “Ranking All of Mac Miller’s Albums” according to Taryn
Once again songs on this playlist are all of the songs mentioned in Tayrn’s “Ranking All of Mac Miller’s Albums”. This is another one of my favorite playlists on the account as I do like to dabble in the music of Mr. Miller from time to time. Though the selections were added by Taryn and verified by Lily Wolf I had to add a few of my own personal favorites to the playlist in order for the listener to receive a well-rounded experience.
My addition: Frick Park Market and 2009 by Mac Miller
My pick: The Spins by Mac Miller
Ranking Every Harry Styles Song according to Taryn
O n c e a g a i n, this playlist features all of the songs on Taryn’s “Ranking Every Harry Styles Song” article. While I do not agree with some of the placements in this article, mainly the placement of staples from the first album like “Ever Since New York” on the lower end of the totem pole. However, this is Tayrn’s article so I made no changes except for the addition of “Carolina” since it wasn’t mentioned in the article and is in fact a Harry Styles song. The songs are in order from worst to best.
My addition: Carolina by Harry Styles
My picks: Ever Since New York and Girl Crush by Harry Styles
10 Albums to Listen to Before You Die according to Taryn
The full albums from all ten in the article are included in the playlist for a total of 10 hours and 42 minutes of bucketlist worthy music according to Tayrn.
My picks: The Chain by Fleetwood Mac, Agnes and Season 2 Episode 3 by Glass Animals, Come Back to Earth and Small Worlds by Mac Miller
Songs Rachel Was Obsessed with on October 10, 2020 according to Rachel Ackerman
There are only three songs on this playlist that Rachel (rachack101 on Spotify) chose for us. It would be easy to just tell you what they are but I won’t. You’ll have to listen for yourself. Plus I already gave you 33.3% of the answer below.

My pick: Space Song by Beach House
The Following playlists are the nine playlists that are all included in Mary Routh’s (maryjo.daisy39 on spotify) “Categorizing Every Taylor Swift Song Ever” article. I would say that Mary Routh is one of the foremost experts on Taylor Swift and her many songs so I trust her work completely and have to say that these are very well organized into fitting categories. Note that Evermore had not come out at the time of this article so Swift’s most recent album is not included but may be in the future.

Why Everyone’s So Obsessed with Phoebe Bridgers according to Taryn
For the last time, the songs on this playlist are all the songs featured on Taryn’s “Why Is Everyone So Obsessed With Phoebe Bridgers” article. I promise if you give this playlist a listen (and read Taryn’s article) you will in fact understand why everyone is so obsessed with Phoebe Bridgers.
My additions: Funeral and Smoke Signals by Phoebe Bridgers
My picks: Funeral and Friday I’m In Love by Pheobe Bridgers
Christy’s Picks according to Christy
The last playlist we have so far is a playlist composed of all of my top picks from all of the other playlists. So if you’d like to listen to a lot of Glass Animals, Mac Miller, and Taylor Swift, this is the playlist for you.
As always thank you for reading. Go ahead and follow the Spotify account everything is linked after the first paragraph if you didn’t catch it. The plan is that all future music articles will be added to the Spotify account as they come so the playlists will update frequently and I of course will add to Christy Picks accordingly.
