Beginner’s Guide to Astrology

It’s time to hop on the bandwagon and learn about the basics of astrology, loser.

Beginners Guide to Astrology

If you’ve been keeping up with The Talon, then you should be familiar with our articles discussing zodiac signs and horoscopes under the all-encompassing subject of astrology. Even if you haven’t been reading The Talon, then you’ve probably heard people talking about their “sun sign” or “Geminis” (whatever those are). The lingo these people are using refers to astrological zodiac signs. Some believe that these signs determine certain characteristics of people born at a specific time, date, and location. Before diving into this article, I would like to address the haters (Ms. Hurt) and non-believers. Astrology has been deemed a “pseudoscience” by astronomers since there is not a considerable amount of evidence to support astrological claims. Now that I’ve prefaced with that, this article introduces astrology in a spiritual context and is more of a belief system that is used to understand the world and the people in it, rather than physical science.

Everyone usually refers to themselves as is their sun sign. Your sun sign is determined by the date of your birth and reflects your identity and who you are as an individual. While your sun sign is vital to your identity, there are many other planetary figures involved in astrology that determine personal aspects like the reflection of your emotions and love life.  As you understand each of your signs, it reveals a more complex side to your unique personality.

Your moon sign determines your emotional reactivity and how you handle your emotions. Your zodiac for the moon sign is dependant on the time in which you were born, which aligns with the placement of the moon at that time. Whatever your moon sign is may help you understand why you are more or less emotional on a more comprehensive level.

The third most recognized sign is your rising/ascendant sign! This is determined by the location of your birth and represents the way in which you outwardly express yourself to the world. You are often perceived as your rising sign when meeting people for the first time. Learning to understand the three main signs that attribute to your unique personality helps you to discover the truth about yourself and your motivations which can steer you on a positive path that leads you to growth. As you start understanding your own astrological chart, you can then understand other people based on their astrological signs, giving you insight on others which allows you to be more empathetic and understanding of others.
