Mia DiPaolo: A Closer Look

Ever wondered what gives her the right?

Mia DiPaolo is a senior at Academic Magnet. She is well known around the school whether it be for her club involvement, food obsession, or ski trip planning. I sat down to find out a little bit more about one of our much-loved veterans because I feel that this year at Magnet there is a large disconnect between the underclassmen and upper, which is a void that needs filling.

So I sat down with one of Magnet’s best, so you all could learn about her, love her, and befriend her.

I love her, that’s really it.

Here’s how it went:

Me: “Where are you from?”

Mia: “I was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, and then I lived in New Jersey. My family moved, and now I live here and I like warm weather it’s cool and nice. I love surfing so living on the coast is definitely a plus. I come from deep Italian roots which I intend to carry with me for the rest of my life.”

Me: I know that you are involved in many clubs and organizations at this school. Care to elaborate?”

Mia: “I am the student body treasurer and I am proud. I am also the president of the speech and debate club, bowling club, investment club, and my biggest accomplishment yet- the only girl and senior in the chess club. I like being involved in so many clubs because it’s a great way to meet people from different grades and learn about new things. Who would’ve thought I’d be amazing at chess?”

Me: I’ve heard through the grapevine that you are an avid foodie. Anything to say about it?”

Mia: “Firstly, follow chas.food for frequent images and deals on good grub. It’s my food blog where I review food and showcase some of the best around Charleston. And yeah, I’ve been into food for my whole life. Growing up my parents and grandparents were all in the catering business so I was constantly immersed in the world of all different kinds of foods. Maybe I’ll stick close to the food industry as I grow up.”

Me: Where do you see yourself in ten years?”

Mia: “Hopefully in ten years I am happy and living my best life. Maybe I’ll have a family…not sure where I want to settle down yet but you have my word it will be someplace worth talking about. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if I was hanging out with Simone and Ella at an amazing restaurant and ordering one of everything off of the menu.”

Me: “Where are you looking at colleges?”

Mia: “East coast baby every one of em. Can’t be too specific because you know you gotta keep them guessing.”

And lastly, I asked her, “What gives you the right?” to which she stuttered nervously and uncomfortably, finally answering, “Uhhhh… not going left…?”
