This Saturday, October 17th, both the AMHS girls and boys swim teams will be competing in the state championship in Columbia. The teams will be swimming in the morning session, which starts around 11:00 Saturday morning, with about 15 teams vying for the AA title.

The biggest competition for the girls are the schools AC Flora and Hilton Head. For the boys, the team to beat is Eastside.

The captains of the two teams are seniors Madison Santi, Emma Crowfoot, Elaine Zhou, Cooper Pitts, and Carter Brzezinski.

There will be several relays, as well as individual races that AMHS is expected to win. Carter Brzezinski will be swimming the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, and Cooper Pitts will be swimming the 200 individual medley (all four strokes) and the 100 breaststroke. Senior Olivia Kinsinger will swim the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, and Elaine Zhou will swim the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke.

This year is a big year for the girls swim team, as they are gunning for their first state championship. They have been using the hash tag #getthebling, as they want to be the first AMHS swim team to win, and therefore the first to have the opportunity to get state rings.

If you see a swimmer, wish them good luck as they end their season on a great note!
