Introducing the Boys Varsity Basketball Team

Introducing+the+Boys+Varsity+Basketball+Team

The Boys Varsity Basketball Team faced some tough losses with last years graduating class. Great players Owen Conley, Mark Maci, and Mills Jordan graduated, leaving the team in the hands of the class of 2022 seniors. Players William Hyatt, Jake Freudenheim, Gray Willits, McClain Stoklosa, and Austin Gallman will lead the team this year and are tasked with being role models for the sophomores and juniors. Head coach Brett Johnsen is back again in hopes to make the 3A playoffs this year. For extra help, Coach Johnsen will rely on Coach Cochran in his first year as the assistant coach. As a whole, the team looks strong this year. Come cheer on the team every Tuesday and Friday in January. Here is the full team roster and overview:

The team is very well rounded, but some standout players are making a huge difference on the court. Center Walker Bauknight uses his size to dominate the paint and has been especially effective at the mid-range. Point-guard William Hyatt returns for his third year on the Varsity Basketball team after a great QB1 season. According to his teammate and close friend, Gray Willits, William “plays the game like a quarterback,” using his smarts and athleticism to lead the team. Small forward Gray Willits is tough and vocal which sets the tone for every game. Another strong player is senior Jake Freudenheim. From the perspective of super-fan Marshall Fleming, Jake appears “calm and doesn’t make mistakes.” His poise and patience is necessary in high stakes games.

The team has many strong-suits, but three point shooting is a point of emphasis, according to senior Gray Willits. Notable sharp shooters include Jake Freudenheim, Michael Donoho, and Baze Duckworth. The teams effective ball movement keeps opposing teams on their toes, as no player on AMHS is afraid to throw up a deep shot. The teams versatility makes games very fun to watch, not to mention the famous AMHS student section which will be in full swing this year.
