The Fashion of Joe Biden’s Inauguration

Last Wednesday, Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States. Although this was a great day for American democracy, I was captivated by the fashion choices made by the attendees. Some are describing this to be the most fashionable inauguration in American history. Is this true? Let’s explore.

The crowd favorite seems to be Michelle Obama’s monochromatic purple outfit. She was dressed in a plum pantsuit designed by Sergio Hudson with Stuart Weitzman boots with a statement belt. This outfit stole the show (and many American’s hearts). The difference between this powerful look and her outfit from Trump’s inauguration is unmatched. Do we deserve her? No. But do we appreciate? Yes.

I personally enjoyed Natalie Biden’s ~pretty in pink~ high fashion look. If I had to choose an outfit to wear from the inauguration, this would probably be my choice. She has a long pink coat on with a matching pink mask and scarf. She is also wearing chic brown heeled boots to pull the look together.

My favorite look of the day came from Dr. Jill Biden with her blue look. I really like the turquoise shade she chose with some faint sparkles mixed in her coat for a little bit of an extra pop. Her dress and mask match her coat perfectly. Its obvious she had this custom made.

Bill Clinton’s outfit really quite confused me. Normal suit, BUT THE MASK?? Is this a children’s mask? A pre-teen girl’s mask? Hillary’s mask? Did he forget his and Hillary have to give him an extra mask she had from her purse? I don’t know. It has shimmering stars and is very tiny. Not quite sure why he couldn’t find a leftover hospital mask anywhere. What if, though, he actually likes the style and wears masks like this often. hmmmm.

Bernie Sanders really stole the show with his oddly casual outfit topped off with some mittens. We know it was very cold in D.C. that day, but it doesn’t seem to me like his outfit was appropriate for a Presidential Inauguration, cute nonetheless. This outfit inspired memes across the internet. I forgot how strong meme culture was before this moment.

These ominous Air Diors made an appearance while someone wearing these highly sought after shoes (valued at over $14,000) walked behind Senator Amy Klobuchar during her speech. The internet went crazy to find out who was wearing them, and it was Nikolas Ajagu  (Kamala Harris’ niece’s husband).

Of course, the real stars of the show were President Biden and Vice President Harris, themselves. They looked stellar as always, and I hope they have a great 4 years ahead. Happy inauguration everyone!
