The Academic Magnet football team defeated Battery Creek last Friday to improve their record to 7-2. Adam Ackerman scored the first touchdown of the game on a 35-yard touchdown run. The Dolphins followed with a touchdown of their own to tie the game 7-7 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was all AMHS. Andrew Alberg scored on an 18-yard run and Reece Moore added to the lead with a 9-yard pass from Trey Perry. The Raptors led 21-7 at halftime, but Battery Creek came surging back in the second half. Andrew Alberg scored his second touchdown of the game on a 16-yard run in the third quarter to put the Raptors up 28-7. However, the lead dwindled when the Dolphins scored two touchdowns to cut the lead to 28-20. The score held to the end of the game, giving the Raptors the victory.

Coach Walpole was back on the sidelines Friday night, coaching in front of a relieved and overjoyed Raptor crowd. The Magnet student section cheered loudly, chanting, “We back Bud” and holding signs celebrating Coach Walpole’s return.

After the game, the Dirty Birds and the Cheerleaders were featured on ABC News 4, performing cheers throughout the 11:00pm episode.
