Spring is a time of renewal and new beginnings. However it is also a season of endings, last AP tests :), and graduation, both super exciting. There are dozens and dozens of events that are going on in Charleston especially. We live in such a great town that has weather that is usually great. But, man oh man is that pollen bad. Like come on now GIVE ME A BREAK. Nevertheless, all of the sporting events, concerts, grad parties, etc are super fun to participate in. We decided to ask some of the students what they were looking forward to. The email was sent out to everybody but only a few people responded. So please if you get sent an email with a google form from Ms. Hurt fill it out, it is a great help to all of us here in newspaper class.
In this article we wanted to focus strictly on what concerts are going on in Charleston from March to June. Also we will touch on grad party season and what all that entails.
There have already been some great concerts this spring. They set quite a high bar for everybody else who plans to come to Charleston and play for a crowd of music lovers. The Gringos and a college cover band that started in Athens. They came to the Windjammer to play for a nearly sold out crowd. I was lucky enough to go and I had a great time. I had never been to the Windjammer before but I can confidently say that I will be going back as soon as possible. The Gringos played great songs that covered almost every genre of music. Personally I loved when they played “Valerie.” It is a great song and their cover of it was awesome. As far as originals go I liked their song “Strange.” I’ll be the first to admit that I used to not like them because I thought that their singer’s voice was terrible, but now I’ve been enlightened to their greatness.
Eric Church performed at the Coliseum and it was spectacular. I grew up listening to him in the car on FM 92.5 and it was amazing seeing him in person. I had also never been to the Coliseum before and was not sure if it was going to be good for the concert but it was awesome. I was in the top tier row basically touching the clouds and planes as they pass by but I still had a great view of the show and could see everything super clearly. I loved the concert and would totally go see him again. And to add onto the greatness of the night one of my favorite bands opened for Eric Church. 49 Winchehster is a great band and I highly recommend them for anybody who has not heard anything from them. They had a great performance and got the crowd ready for Eric Church. My favorite songs from them is “Tulsa” and when I walked into the venue that was the song playing,;that is how I knew it was going to be a great concert.
-I thought I would get an opinion of a popular concert from someone who was there, since unfortunately I was not able to attend.
Hi, it’s Sophia Easterbrook! On March 13th, I went to see Congress the Band at the Refinery downtown. They’re from Charleston and really popular at SEC school, and I had been seeing them a lot on TikTok, so I was super excited when they were coming to their hometown. I do wish it was longer though. My friends and I didn’t go until after the openers had finished, so Congress came on a little after 9. They played until about 10:30. There was a great energy there and everyone was super hype. They played their popular songs, like Out the Door and Modern Lady, and they played some great covers like Valerie and Red Hot Chili Peppers. I saw so many people I know, and everyone seemed to have a great time. I can’t wait for them to come back in July at the Windjammer!
-I’m glad you were able to go to the Congress concert Sophia sure sounds like you had a great time.
Hello its Sam, I am going to a few concerts soon! I am going to Ole 60 at the refinery very soon. I am very excited because I love the venue and the band will be fun to see live. My favorite song by them is Thoughts About You which they will probably conclude with. Hooray! I am also debating whether to go to Highwater or not; there are a few bands at highwater I would like to see like Winyah and Arcy Drive, but I am not sure it justifies the steep price of Highwater. I am also very excited to go to Mt. Joy soon, as they also play in Charleston, I saw them at Highwater last year and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. I love Mt. Joy’s between song transitions and they like to transition from song to song like how the Grateful Dead used to run their transitions, so overall very excited about the concerts in my future.
-That’s awesome Sam!! I’m happy that you’re going to be enjoying all of these concerts and making the most of the short time left that we have in Charleston.
Grad party season is also right around the corner. This is an exciting time for all the senior out there. It is a time of celebrating what is to come to an end. Living up the final moments with the friends you have made over the last four years and also those people you have grown up with. Take these moments and appreciate them because before you know it they will be gone. Sadly but also in an awesome way, a lot of us at Academic Magnet are going to colleges all over the country. This is super exciting!! Enjoy the awesome spring that is to come. Can’t wait to see what the future holds.
