Spectrum Club is Promoting Equality for Everyone

Samantha Kramer, Staff Writer

With many clubs having their first meetings, there may be some that you didn’t notice to sign up for or didn’t see. Though there are many clubs that have been here for years, there are also new clubs this year like Spectrum. This club was created by Daniel Roa in order to promote equality and have fun. It meets every Monday during lunch in Mrs. Callicott’s room by the lecture hall (the art room). The first meeting was this past Monday and it was mostly an introduction day, so you can definitely still join! It is open to anyone who is an ally or member of the LGBTQ+ community, and if you don’t know what all those letters stand for, you should join to learn what they mean! The club has a variety of projects they will be doing like Spirit Day, National Day of Silence, Pride Events, etc. The main purpose of the club is to create a safe place for LGBTQ+ individuals, raise awareness of the community, and promote education of the spectrum of sexualities that not all people may be aware of. The majority of the club is actually straight allies who want to increase their knowledge about the LGBTQ+ community, have friends that are a part of the community, are simply allies that want to show their support, or just want a fun place to be. Spectrum is always happy to welcome a new member any time of the year.
