With TMPs and Midterms hanging in the air and Christmas Break slowly approaching, this time at Magent is considered one of the hardest. I hope seeing some more cute pets and learning about their unique quirks will brighten your day a little and maybe make you laugh during this trying time. Good luck to you all, and enjoy!
First up, we have Leah Whipkey, a Sophomore here at Magnet. She had two cats named Rusty & Crusty. Certainly, some unique names. Leah says that her brother came up with the names when he was 5. He could not stop laughing about how funny they were, and that rhymed. They ended up keeping the names because he loved them so much. The family has had Rusty & Crusty since 2022, when they started fostering both of them. They were fostering them both since they were twins from the same litter. They knew they wanted to keep one of them; however, it didn’t feel right separating them, so they ended up keeping them both. Leah says her favorite quirks about them are that Crusty has a really high-pitched squeak, making him sound like a squeaker toy, and Rusty acts like a ragdoll whenever anybody picks him up and ends up just hanging there. Leah said that they both know how to stand on their hind legs. Their favorite treat is Greenies, which I’m sure they both stand to get. She says the most annoying thing about them is that they are always fake fighting and yowling.

Next, we have Emma Nelson, a Junior at Magnet. She has a dog named Lou and picked the name because she thought of an old white man’s name, like Louis. Emma has had him for three years and says she picked him out because he was cute. Emma’s favorite quirk about Lou is that he is not the sharpest tool in the shed, saying that he runs full speed into doors. Lou’s favorite snack is chocolate chip cookies that Emma says he snatches off the counters. This might be why he’s not the brightest, or maybe it’s all the door slamming. Emma says the most annoying thing about Lou is that he likes to steal food off the counters, like cookies. He’s so cute all dressed up for the holidays!

Now we have Machaela Black, a Junior at Magnet. Machaela has a dog named Buddy; however, they have several nicknames for him, like Dobby, Boy-boy, Bud-Bud, and more. She says that Buddy is named this because his original owner gave him the name, and her family really liked it, so they decided not to change it. They have had Buddy for a few months now, and they got him because his old owner had just passed away. Her parents were skeptical about it at first, but once they found out he was housebroken and hypoallergenic, they decided to adopt him. Machaela says that her favorite quirk about Buddy is his dual personality. She says that one moment, he’ll be hyper and trying to find someone to play with, and then, he’ll be sprawled out on a blanket or curled up on the couch, relaxing for a couple of hours. Machaela says that Buddy can find his way out of a blanket if it’s thrown on him. She says, while it’s not exactly a trick, it’s very comical to watch him try to get out. She says his favorite treat is table scraps and that he’s taken their Roomba’s job. Buddy’s most annoying trait is that at night, he sees his reflection on their sliding door, and he thinks it’s another dog. Buddy will bark at it until Machaela covers up the glass with a large play mat.
