Introduction:

Charleston is the next big location of the infamous Beyond Van Gogh: An Immersive Experience. I have constantly seen this event featured on social media and always thought it looked beautiful, so I was thrilled when it was announced that this would be coming to the Holy City. This art experience is similar to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition that also came to Charleston over the summer. So if anyone went to that and enjoyed it, then the Beyond Van Gogh exhibit will be right up your alley.

What is this experience?

This Van Gogh experience is different from your typical art exhibit. It uses projection technology to bring his artwork to life through narrative and music, and kinetic movements that move all around you. As you walk through the display, you are enchanted by the 300 pieces of art that are brought to life. The primary purpose of this exhibit and these types of shows is to immerse you into the artist’s world and live inside of the paintings. The show lasts about 30 minutes and then continues on a loop, so it is not extremely long.

When and where is this happening?

Tickets are currently being sold on the website (https://vangoghcharleston.com) in advance for the July arrival. Yes, this is very far away, but it is a tour that travels around the world, which is why it is such a special exhibit. The dates of this exhibit will be from July 16, 2022, until September 4, 2022, at the Charleston Area Convention Center. Tickets will start at $36.99 for adults and $21.99 for children. According to Business Wire, tickets will sell out quickly for this event, so buy tickets as soon as possible if you are interested. This event has been sold out at every location that it has been out around the world, which shows that it must be somewhat worth it.

Are reviews positive for this exhibit?

A family described one review of this experience on Tripadvisor as, “A complete rip-off. Poor quality. Poor clarity,” and another Tripadvisor user wrote that “This experience is not to be missed. I have never seen anything like this in my whole life. I felt like I was inside Van Gogh’s paintings.” As you can see, there are very different opinions of this exhibit. Most people believe that it is worth the price to see it since it is such a unique experience, but some expected better quality that they did not receive.

Conclusion:

I feel as though the whole exhibit show is relatively short given the price, but I am still eager to check it out. I am super psyched about this coming here because I love to try new things, especially in the summer. I hope this overview got some of you pumped about Van Gogh and his artwork!
