Wednesday, September 28th, a lone gunman traveled to an Elementary School and opened fire. In this barrage two children were shot along with one teacher. In addition to this the fourteen year old white male shot and killed his father. Because of these tragic events school has been suspended for the rest of the week, allowing the families to spend time with one another and support their community. The shooter did not even enter the building when opening fire on the students. He parked his car in the school lot and began shooting at the playground where the kids were enjoying recess. Luckily a volunteer firefighter was able to detain the subject before turning him over to the police. Jamie Brock, the firefighter who took down the shooter, stated that he did not want to be interviewed about the topic, and that he did what any other firefighter would have done.

The main issue with this shooting is that an armed teen was able to drive and park close enough to a school playground with no security and open fire and hit three different people. This is a tragic incident with mothers now stating that they do not even want to send their kids to school anymore. To combat these tragic incidents there should be more security measures put into place to protect the campus and everyone there. For instance implementing a security guard station that allows and checks out anyone coming onto or leaving the school grounds. Although the school already had extreme safety precautions put into place for entering the school, the outside is very open, as with most schools. In an ideal world the children would be able to be protected wherever they go. However, the reality is that if there is enough evil to bring someone to do something horrible, no matter how much caution is taken by schools, they will find a way to do it. Luckily for the people of Townville everyone who was shot will survive and the school will return to business as normal next Monday, October 3rd.
