With March only a few days away, spring fashion is making its way back into stores! With social media and trends dictating the fashion style for the season, some may be wondering what we are likely to see in stores over the next few months.
First, let’s discuss where to shop for some fun spring clothing. Some personal favorites of ours are Free People, Abercrombie & Fitch, Anthropologie, and Brandy Melville. If you’re looking for some local boutiques, there is Sloane downtown, DFTI downtown, and Quiet Storm–you guessed it: downtown! A few other places to shop for spring/summer clothes could be Hollister, Pacsun, American Eagle/Aerie, and Palmetto Moon. So, what are you likely to find in these stores for the spring? Let’s talk about it:
With spring comes new color schemes. While winter and autumn typically focus on neutral and darker colors, spring does the opposite! Spring clothing is filled with a mix of pastel colors in addition to bold, bright colors. A specific color trending this year is a bright, coral color. If you’ve seen the trending, yet weirdly expensive, coral lounge pants online, then you understand that this color has been appearing more and more in clothing brands. Bright and fun, coral screams spring, summer, and a fun beach or boat day! In addition to coral, pastel colors are always in season for the spring. Light green, pastel purple, baby blue, and carnation pink are some typical color schemes for clothing. These can be found in floral patterns, accessories, and colorblock clothing.
Accompanying color schemes are fun spring patterns! Every year, it is almost impossible not see florals in every spring collection. Flowers bloom in the spring, so of course, it should be reflected in the fashion trends! With floral patterns recently becoming popular on loungewear, it has always been popular among dresses, blouses, and tank tops. Flowers can appear 2D or 3D on clothes, creating numerous ways to find unique outfits with floral inspirations. Another notable pattern is the pointelle knit style tops. Most often seen in cardigan sweaters and tank tops, the pointelle design has a special way of sprucing up an otherwise simplistic clothing choice.
Renting clothes has become increasingly popular, and we are all here for it. Why spend $150 on a dress when you can rent it for cheaper? Well, good news, because there are so many cute spring items on rental websites. The two most popular would be Nuuly and Rent the Runway. For Nuuly, you can order 6 items from the website for $98 and keep them for the month you ordered them. There are thousands of dresses, tops, jeans, skirts, and athletic wear for you to rent. Rent the Runway has some more high-end designers, which could be good for any formal event you may need to dress up for. Either way, the new idea of renting clothes instead of purchasing them has stuck out to us for this spring era.
Spring is the season of lighter, more fun vibes in dresses and skirts. Maxi dresses that have flowy, square necklines and wrap styles will be on your list of style statements for the year. Floral prints are still widely represented, but look out for abstract prints and subtle geometrics to start creeping in. Skorts, which are shorts with skirts over them, are a practical option for school and weekends. They provide both comfort and stylistic appeal. Typically, skorts will be combined with sneakers, rounding out a cute yet casual look.
We predict that layering will become a large trend this spring. Spring weather often changes unexpectedly due to morning chills, afternoons warm, and evening breeziness. Layers made of lightweight materials have enabled students to create some interesting looks. Oversized button-downs, or half-buttoned cardigans, are an addition to established looks. Denim jackets, in particular, those with embellishments and patches, have returned to the forefront as a staple. Layering serves to provide you with comfort while providing a wardrobe with additional depth and individuality throughout the school day.
Spring is a great time for sporty and athletic-inspired styles. Academic Magnet continues to be filled with the athleisure trend because of its fashion and comfort. Common parts of this look for our students are leggings, athletic shorts, skirts, mock neck sweatshirts, and cute athletic tank tops. Most students wear their athletic outfits with a pair of cushioned shoes for an all-day comfort level. With the spring weather, it’s an easy way to wear lightweight sweatshirts in the morning, then switch to short sleeves by the afternoon. It’s a basic yet functional style that looks put together at the same time.
Barbour jackets have also seen lots of popularity recently. Though it normally warms up during the spring, you can never go wrong with a fashionable jacket. I must say, they are super expensive, but I think they are worth it!! There are different styles of jackets, whether you want a longer jacket or a cropped version, and they are easy to style. So if you are willing to pay the price, then this jacket is definitely a good investment and choice for spring purchasing!
Springtime sandals and trendy sneakers are probably two of the most sought-after footwear choices this season since they combine fashion with function. As the temperatures begin to rise, sandals such as your typical strap or platform styles become a quick solution for all of your walking needs. They pair nicely with flowing maxi-dresses, wide-legged jeans, or skirts; therefore, making your outfits appear more airy and casual. Also, cute sneakers are always a reliable option on days when there is continuous movement, especially on long beach walks. Low-profile sneakers available in white or pastels can be paired successfully with almost any outfit, while bulkier-looking sneakers can easily twist any boring-looking clothing into fashionable-looking clothing. So, all in all, sandals and sneakers are two comfortable, practical, and fashionable styles of shoes that can help you with your outfit choices this spring.
Spring fashion is about putting a fresh spin on your clothes; finding items that are much lighter, more colorful, and more comfortable than you normally wear. There are many ways to show your own style this spring, while also being practical for school, through all the different options of flowy dresses, wide-leg jeans, cute sneakers, and casual sandals available during this time of year. One of the best parts about spring trends is their versatility; you can layer, mix, and match colors and/or combine various types of clothing to create a look that is totally you! Once it starts to get warmer outside, it will be a great opportunity for you to try something new with your outfit choices and have fun while getting ready for the spring season!
