This thriller of a National Championship could’ve gone either way as both teams were close to each other the entire game and both defenses were playing phenomenal. Throughout the game, the Miami defense sacked Fernando Mendoza 3 times with multiple tackles for loss, showing why their D-Line is so widely respected. The Miami defensive line was so powerful that even the Indiana coach had to recognize their strength after the game and that their 2 star defensive linemen were something they were scared of. On the other side of things, Carson Beck was pressured the entire game leading to some questionable throws that should’ve been picked off making it a very defense heavy game with high pressure on the quarterbacks. Although these quarterbacks were pressured highly throughout this game, that did not stop them from throwing as Carson Beck, the quarterback for the Miami Hurricanes, threw for over 230 yards. Late in the 4th quarter, Beck also threw a touchdown to Toney for a 22 yard touchdown which was a crucial throw under this severe pressure. Fernando Mendoza for the Hoosiers threw for over 185 yards but did not manage to throw for a touchdown during this game. The true dominant force for the Hurricanes was Mark Fletcher Jr. and Malachi Toney, Mark Fletcher Jr. who wears tape on his face to signify his father who passed in 2024 is a dominant running back who plans to return for next season as well, in this game he ran for over 112 yards with key dominant plays that led to 2 touchdowns. Malachi Toney, who is the ‘Canes star wide receiver had over 120 receiving yards with a touchdown of his own, being a force to be reckoned with. The first quarter started out very dry as both the Hoosiers and the ‘Canes were constantly stopped leading to the first quarter ending with the Hoosiers leading 3-0. As the 2nd quarter went underway, both teams were yet again shut down but the Hoosiers did manage to get a touchdown halfway through the second quarter. Both teams were unable to score in the latter half of the 2nd quarter, making the score 10-0 at Halftime with the Hoosiers in the lead. After Halftime, Mark Fletcher Jr. had a 57 yard rushing touchdown which brought a wave of momentum early on in this second half. The Hoosiers were lacking on the offensive side for a while until the momentum boost made by the defense which was a blocked punt on the Miami side of the field which led to a scoop and score touchdown, taking the score to 17-7. Fletcher responded quickly into the 4th quarter bringing the scores closer, but Mendoza wasn’t having it as he ran for a touchdown of his in on 4th and 5 making the score 24-14. A few minutes later, Beck threw a 22 yard touchdown to Toney making this a 3 point game. The Hoosiers then ran down the field with under 2 minutes to go and on a game winning drive, they were stopped and forced to take 3 and make it only a 6 point game. On the final drive of the game, the ‘Canes were driving and were on pace to have a chance when Carson Beck threw an absolute abomination of a throw, ending the game with an interception and a Hoosiers victory.
