With Christmas right around the corner people are going to be looking forward to cuddling up on the couch and spending time watching movies and drinking hot chocolate. Over the years there have been many great Christmas movies made and some can be very emotional, others hilarious. All of them are great films and bring the Christmas joy to life. A great Christmas movie also has the ability to bring you back in time to your younger days, before mid term exams and when the joy of Christmas was at its peak. I’m going to rank my personal favorite Christmas movies and explaining why I think they are the best.
- It’s a Wonderful Life. This sure is an oldie but it is a goodie as well. It is a powerful story about someone whose dreams always get pushed back due to issues out of his control. With great themes of family importance and love it will make you realize how much you truly have. Even though your dreams may not happen, there are people who love you and will be there for you. One key take away from this is to treat others how you want to be treated and they will return the favor.
- Home Alone 1 and 2. To me these are just as good as one another. They are absolutely hilarious. More than that, Kevin is living every kid’s dream, junk food, no family telling you what to do, and you can watch anything you want to. It also teaches you valuable lessons in life, don’t judge a book by its cover, and love your family. This is a timeless classic and all ages enjoy it. The montage of Kevin’s first day at home is not only a Christmas classic but a straight movie class.
- Christmas Vacation. A Molly Tombs suggestion that I have to say I agree with. This is possibly the most funny Christmas movie. Cousin Eddie is a classic character that everybody can laugh with. There are countless quotable lines throughout the whole movie. A personal favorite of mine is “Why’s the floor wet Todd?” (my uncle’s name is Todd) to which the response is “I DON’T KNOW MARGOT” said in a snarky tone. From Clark being stuck in the attic to the grandpa’s toupee catching fire, this movie is full of laughs.
- Love Actually. Classic romance movie. It follows multiple love stories and their individual journeys to love. Your heart will throb throughout the whole film, and do not worry it will not break. The ending is up there for the best ending to any romance movie ever, Christmas or not. This is a highly recommended movie.
- Polar Express. Personal take, this is the best animated Christmas movie. I could be biased because I love Tom Hanks and I have seen this movie in 4D, but I do genuinely believe that this is a great movie. The journey that they take on the train and the magic that you feel will make you want to get some hot chocolate and marshmallows.
All of these movies are great in their own right. I recommend that in order to make your Christmas a joyful as possible that you watch all of these before the big day. I hope y’all all have a great winter break and Santa checks off your Christmas list.
Merry Christmas!!!
