12. James Madison University:
James Madison made the college football playoffs through hopes and dreams, with the help of the Duke Blue Devils, and the victory in their conference championship game against the Troy Trojans where they won 31-14. Duke helped James Madison as Duke won their conference championship against the Virginia Cavaliers in the ACC championship. James Madison although they made the playoffs got stuck up against the Oregon Ducks, Oregon who is a member of a very weak conference with a weak schedule could be prone to upset to the Dukes (JMU mascot) in their match up in the first round of the playoffs.
11. Tulane University:
Tulane got the 11 seed in the college football playoffs as they were the conference champions in the American Conference. Tulane beat the North Texas Mean Green in their match up this past Saturday. Tulane, although they do not have as great of uniforms as North Texas, absolutely demolished them 34-21 and that’s with the pity points that North Texas received at the end of the game.
10. University of Miami:
This is a very controversial team that made the playoffs, many people believe the Notre Dame Fighting Frauds deserved a spot over them, some say that Vanderbilt deserved a spot over both of them, but in my opinion, Miami was the correct choice as they not only beat Notre Dame in their head to head matchup, they also have more quality wins than they do. Notre Dame’s only quality win was against Pitt while Miami also played Pitt and beat them by a larger margin than Notre Dame did. Miami, although a very high ranked team did not make their conference championship (ACC) due to their conference record containing 2 losses.
(Unhonorable Mention) Notre Dame:
The Notre Dame Fighting Frauds are one of the most embarrassing fan bases on the planet. Notre Dame fans not only begged for a playoff spot and cried when they fairly got booted from the final selection, they also chose to ignore their head to head loss against Miami and their lack of good teams in their schedule. Notre Dame had 1 ranked win, which was against Pitt, but Miami beat Pitt by a larger margin than Notre Dame did. Last week, Notre Dame was ranked higher than Miami which caused a storm in the college football community. Notre Dame is now being a sore loser by REFUSING to play a bowl game because they got left out of the playoffs which is mind boggling because I have never seen a team be to petty to refuse to play a top 15 opponent. This isn’t all because Notre Dame has now made a deal with the NCAA College Football Committee to guarantee them a playoff spot starting next year if they finish the regular season within the top 12, this is outrageous because they are a non-conference independent team which means that they can schedule to play pretty much high school level teams in order to guarantee themselves a playoff spot.
9. Alabama:
Alabama is also a source of controversy on whether they should be in the playoffs or not, it is known that teams won’t be eliminated from the playoffs if they lose their conference championship game but this caused a storm because of how bad the Georgia Bulldogs beat Bama. In their match up against Georgia, Alabama lost 28-7 making it seem as if Ty Simpson is not all that he is shown to be. Some people say that Miami should be over Alabama in the playoff ranking as well due to this.
8. Oklahoma:
Oklahoma has had a great season thus far and in this playoff picture they are set to face off yet again against the Crimson Tide. Although the Sooners have beaten Alabama already this year, I believe it was just a down week for Alabama and they will get their revenge. This game is set to take place at Oklahoma which could be dangerous for Alabama as the Crimson Tide did lose to Oklahoma this year at home. Even though Bama has mud thrown on their name, I do believe that they will strike back against the haters and will emerge victorious.
7. Texas A&M:
Texas A&M is a great team but it has some holes. Although this team is great when they play good, when they aren’t on the same page it is catastrophic. Some key examples of this are against Texas and in the first half against South Carolina. The Aggies are set to play against the Miami Hurricanes in the playoffs and I believe that the Aggies will emerge victorious but wont last very long afterwards as they would have to play against Ohio State if they won.
6. Ole Miss:
Yes Ole Miss has had a great season, should they be ranked this high? No. Ole Miss has been great this year with some key victories under their belt, but with the loss of Lane Kiffin and a large portion of their staff, I do not believe they will last in their first match against Tulane. This is controversial but I do believe Tulane will beat Ole Miss as without their coaching room, I think they will fall apart. However, if they can get their running game started with their great running back, I think it will be the fall of Tulane.
5. Oregon
Overrated, will lose to JMU.
4. Texas Tech:
This team not only has the best defense in the country, they only have 1 loss and that was when their star quarterback was out. The Red Raiders are definitely a team I would not want to underestimate but I have to say they will lose to JMU just because I want JMU to win it all.
3. Georgia Bulldogs:
The Georgia Bulldogs are definitely a favorite in the playoff picture but would probably face Ohio State in the semi-final game which would be a sight to see.
2. THE Ohio State University:
This team lost 13-10 in one of the most boring conference championship games of the decade, their kicker not only missed a 20 something yard field goal to tie the game, they also turned the ball over a lot.
1. Indiana University:
No hate, they deserve the number 1 spot.
