As we approach the new holiday season, it’s time for our family traditions to kick off. In this article, we are going to explore the different traditions going around at Magnest.
First, we have two people who like to go to the festival of lights. Sam Galloway and Caleb Golden both love going to the festival every year. Sam says that it is his favorite tradition because it is always a fun night out with family and maybe some friends too. Caleb says that going to the festival is his favorite because he likes roasting marshmallows and riding the train. Sam said that the tradition started when he was about 7, but he does not know why it started. For Caleb, the tradition started when he was 5, and he also does not know why they started going.

Our next one is very unique and interesting. Logan D’Agostino has a family tradition where they do an eggnog marathon. He says they run 2 miles and chug 2 bottles of eggnog. He says this tradition is his favorite because it really brings out the Christmas spirit. Logan said that the tradition first started in the 1930s when his great-grandfather discovered that eggnog was coming to the United States.

Then there is Machaela Black, who says her favorite tradition is that every Christmas morning, someone will hide a pickle ornament in the tree, and the first person who finds it gets to open the first present. Macheala says it’s her favorite because the chaos of trying to find the pickle is very fun. She said that she does not really care about finding it, so she just does it for the friendly competition. Machaela said that the tradition started years ago when they found the sparkly pickle ornament and decided to buy it. She says that the tradition started because her parents thought it would be a fun thing to do in order to determine who opened the first gift. Machaela said that her youngest sister took a large bite out of the ornament one year because she loves pickles so much. I bet she was very surprised to find herself with a mouth full of paint and styrofoam!

Next, we have Henry Campbell, who says his favorite tradition is drinking hot chocolate. He specifically loves the hot chocolate his mom makes. He said that the tradition started when his mom was a kid. Henry’s grandparents started it when his mom was a kid. It started because his grandparents made a recipe and decided to share it with the family, the same recipe that his mom uses.

Our last person is Kate Selvitelli. Her favorite tradition is the Feast of the Seven Fishes. She says that it is her favorite tradition because she loves how it is a historical Italian-immigrant tradition that her family has done every year, even if they aren’t together. Kate said that the tradition first started when Italian immigrants first came to America, and it started because fish was cheap, so people were able to buy many types of it and have a feast with their family when celebrating Christmas.

All of these traditions are great in their own way, and they bring a unique twist to the winter holiday season. Some are rooted in history, others are rooted in fun family jokes, yet they all demonstrate the fun and love that is sparked by the season. Happy holidays!
