Mr. Percy Races to the Finish Line

My main goal was just to be able to do it

— Mr. Percy

Over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, Mr. Percy, one of our esteemed math teachers, ran a half marathon, 13.1 miles, to support Parkinson’s research. He ran in support of the Micheal J. Fox Foundation. The race took place in Orlando, Florida around Disney World. All of the participants got to run through the different parks, including the Disney princess castles! Each runner had to make a commitment to fundraise at least $1,000 in order to enter the competition. Last year the foundation raised over 11.5 million dollars for Parkinson’s disease.

Mr. Percy woke up at 2:30 in the morning on January 9 in order to prepare for the race he would try to complete later that day. At 5:30 all of the runners lined up and prepared to begin. Some took the race very seriously, while other dressed up in silly costumes and just wanted to have a good time.

He was in corral M, so he had to wait a while before he could start running. Mr. Percy  finished with a time of 2 hours, 35 minutes, and 44 seconds. He said that because there were thousands of people, it was difficult to weave through the crowd in order to get a decent time. Overall, he said the experience was really enjoyable!
