Oscars 2024 Red Carpet review

Recapping some iconic looks from the 2024 Oscars!
Oscars 2024 Red Carpet review

On March 10, the 2024 award season came to a close with the airing of the 96th Academy Awards. This was another seemingly unproblematic award show that even had a few iconic gems from the show such as the “I’m Just Ken” performance. The red carpet also had some intriguing visitors and multiple stunning looks that need to be highlighted.

Hailee Steinfeld

Hailee Steinfeld walked the red carpet in this gorgeous gown. It has an angelic and wispy feeling to it, which is very different when compared to some of the other looks from the night. I absolutely love this dress’ simplicity and whimsical elegance!

Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, and Ryan Gosling

It appears these Barbie stars traded in their trademark pink outfits, that were worn on red carpets in honor 0f their movie, for these stunning, all black looks. Some are even calling Margot Robbie’s dress her revenge dress seeing as she was not nominated for leading actress. Ryan Gosling traded his all black suit for a sparkly pink ensemble towards the end of the award ceremony when performing his Oscar nominated song, “I’m Just Ken”. This may have been the last time we get to see Barbie inspired outfits make their way onto red carpets or award ceremonies and Ryan Gosling certainly did not disappoint with this outfit.

Jennifer Lawrence

Another simplistic, yet elegant outfit! Jennifer Lawrence looks absolutely stunning and I am so happy to see her coming back into the Hollywood scene. However, when I first saw this photo, I couldn’t help but be reminded of an umbrella. The pattern is unusual and feels slightly casual when compared to where the dress was worn. Nonetheless, Ms. Lawrence makes this dress work perfectly.

Florence Pugh

I am completely and utterly obsessed with this look! Florence looks on brand to support her new movie Dune: Part Two in this sparkly silver gown. The top part of the dress is interesting and unique, but does not go to extremes to be different. It is the perfect amount of simplicity and creativity.

Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky

This adorable husband and wife tend to keep their relationship private so seeing them at the Oscars was a bit of shocker, but a pleasant one. Ms. Pataky looks striking in this white and sparkled dress. Chris Hemsworth went with the classic black tux with a white shirt underneath. These two paired each other well with keeping to neutral colors.

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens debuted her baby bump in a simple long sleeved black dress that was accented with a few pieces of jewelry. She looks amazing and seems to be continuing her pattern of black dresses while on the Oscars red carpet.

Emma Stone

I love the coloring of this dress. In some lighting it looked white, while in others, such as this photo, it held a mint-ish hue. The dress itself seems extremely constricting, as proved evident when Ms. Stone went on stage to accept her award for Lead Actress and informed the crowd that her dress had torn in the back while enjoying Ryan Gosling’s performance of “I’m Just Ken”. Despite this, I think that this look is very fitting for the actress and the coloring compliments her movie Poor Things.

Dennis Gelin

This is a very interesting take on a classic tux. The odd black lines make you look twice at the wearer and there is a nice symmetry between the white of the shirt and jacket when placed next to the black pants, bow tie, and the black stripes.

Billie Eilish

Award winning singer, Billie Eilish, made her red carpet appearance in this cute, maybe even a little casual, preppy outfit. This reminds me of the old money outfit trend that has been circulating around. It is definitely interesting to see it make its way onto the Oscar’s red carpet.

Catherine O’Hara

Catherine O’Hara is truly channeling her inner Moira Rose with this sparkly black ensemble and the simple crystal jewelry. She seems to be continuing the pattern for the night of simple black dresses.

The Cast of Wicked

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo showed up on the carpet and it was instantly clear that they were promoting their new movie Wicked. These gowns fit their characters really well and I love that I can already picture the movie. Ariana Grande’s bleached brows were a shocking sight, yet I think that it works well with her hair color and the gown.

Andrea Riseborough

Ms. Riseborough is channeling her inner autumn with this burnt orange, black, yellow, and white plaid dress that also has a slight turtleneck feature. This is yet another outfit that feels a little too casual to be worn on the Oscar’s red carpet but I digress. Despite its unusual appearance and my dislike for it, I can’t deny that it looks fitting for Andrea Riseborough.

This year’s looks were filled with many simple, yet elegant outfits. On top of that, there were many actors who followed the theme of their movies such as Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. However, it was fun and shocking to see many of the Barbie cast members trade in their pink for black. All in all, this year’s Academy Awards provided the public with some iconic looks that may set the stage for some 2024 trends on runways.
