The 2026 lacrosse season has officially begun at AMHS meaning the start of games, practices, and long bus rides for what is totally the most socially relevant sports team at Magnet: women’s lacrosse. Academic Magnet’s women’s lacrosse program has grown immensely in the last four years, going from barely having a Varsity roster to containing both a Varsity and JV team with additional players making up a practice squad. In honor of our tremendous progress and victories yet to come, it seems only fitting to introduce the team so without further ado, here is your 2026 GLAX Varsity Team.
The Seniors:
There are a total of five seniors on the women’s lacrosse team, two of whom are fallen soldiers. Hayden Moody and Rowen Eglelke both suffered tragic accidents in their basketball seasons, preventing them from playing for most of or all of the lacrosse season. Fortunately, they have decided to stay on the team as managers performing the vital task of keeping team stats. Other seniors on the team include senior captains Caitlin Farr and Jill Gunn, both of whom have spent four years on the team starting their freshman year. You can find Caitlin in midfield, attack, or scoring against Porter Gaud. Jill is a low attacker and I hate writing in third person so that’s all I’ll say. Last but not least is Maggie Conlon, the resident SOA kid. She joined the team two years ago and is now completing her third and final season as a Raptor.
The Juniors:
The class of 2027 has a large presence on the women’s lacrosse field. Our two junior captains are Lauren Schafer and Clementine Willard, both of whom are midfielders. Our other junior midfielder is Mia Dewey, world renowned for being a quad-sport athlete and the fastest person on the team. On attack we have Wren Kennedy, who is currently injured but will hopefully return from her hiatus of taking stats and being the team’s #1 cheerleader and hairstylist very soon. Never underestimate the influence that comes with being able to braid. For our junior defenders we have Claire Livermore on low defense and Julia Dennie on high defense. Fun fact, Julia is left handed. This is a piece of information that is vital to understanding my personal annoyance.
The Sophomores:
There are only two sophomores on the team, both are defenders. Coincidence? I think not. Moreen Jang is starting her second year on Varsity, playing aggressive defense and being a very very loud communicator on and off the field. Charlotte Shields is new to the varsity lacrosse team but not new to the program as a whole as she previously participated in the AMHS JV GLAX team’s inaugural season last year.
The Freshmen:
This year we have five freshmen on the Varsity team. First and foremost is our brand new Varsity goalie Della Terrell, taking the place of but never replacing our former resident goalie. Della formerly played on the JV lacrosse team in middle school and is now heading up the Varsity defense with her energy and sarcastic comments powering her saves. Next on the list is midfielder Hope Holland who has quickly established herself as one of the team’s top scorers taking on draws and goals with s significant degree of success. On attack we have Louisa Seminaroti carrying on the Louisa legacy because what is AMHS GLAX without at least one player named Louisa. Also playing attack, Maria Moses made her Varsity debut after a middle school season on the JV team last year. Our final freshman, Rose Williams, has made quite an impact on our defense this season and is also notably very entertaining which is necessary for the copious amount of time we spend at practice, games, and on the bus.
The Coaches:
What would a team article be without mentioning our coaches. This team is coached by head Coach Taylor Summers and Coach Caroline Roncalli who are currently in their third year of coaching after taking over from the previous regime. Our JV program coaches are Coach Zomaria Smith and Coach Amelia Epstien.
All About The Team:
If the world revolved around this team, it would be world renowned for camaraderie and spirit. Junior Captain Lauren Schafer notes her favorite part of the team as being “the positivity and team energy that we carry to every practice and game.” Goalie Della Terrell claims that her favorite part of the team is her wonderful teammates, specifically referencing Julia Dennie almost breaking her nose during last year’s tryouts. Other fond memories include trips to Chipotle and Zesto’s, long bus rides, team dinners, the guys vs girls game, holiday themed practices, hitting each other with pool noodles, interesting encounters with refs, our bus hitting the awning of a gym in Hilton Head, and an electrifying and muddy win on the May River practice field after a torrential downpour of rain washed the lines off of the turf field.
This season is sure to be a great one for women’s lacrosse at AMHS. Julia Dennie is most excited “TO BE BETTER THAN EVER,” a goal that has already been achieved in the short time since the season has started. Junior Captain Clementine Willard is excited to perhaps achieve 100 high school career points. Mia Dewey hopes to make team history by making it to the third round of playoffs.
