March Madness Highlight Teams
Duke- this team honestly just seems like a shoe-in. Between the boozer brothers, crashout Isaiah Evans, and the heart and soul of the all-too-well-known Cameron crazies, despite this team’s previous tournament woes, I have no doubt they will at least when the initial games of opening weekend. They also have another trick up their sleeve named Cameron Boozer. Cameron Boozer is truly following in his father’s footsteps as an NBA superstar. He manages the game at Duke with such a crazy level of confidence and professionalism that he seriously draws teams to him. He can slow down the game to his pace and score very efficiently. He is truly an amazing presence in the paint and will fit well into any offense he is drafted into. The only reason he is not a part of the top 3 is because I just don’t think he is as dynamic as the others. He definitely has a higher floor than some, but his athleticism relegates him to the bottom in terms of potential. However, one thing that really boosts him for me is his passing ability. He almost slightly Jockic-like because of the way he sees the floor.
Kanas- I know that everyone loves ST. John’s, but for whatever reason I might just not be buying the hype around this perennial 5/4 seed tournament entry. What I do think, though, is that March Madness is about narratives and I think a usually dormant DNPer Peterson is going to wake up and quiet down the naysayers that doubt his Mamba mentality. After all, Daryn Peterson is the clear-cut alpha, number one pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. I have not watched anyone who scores at three levels quite like him. He can spot-up shoot in a Klay-esque manner, and has a Curry aura while he is creating shots. You simply cannot leave him unguarded outside the perimeter. But even if you lock up that area of his game, he can pull up from mid-range like KD.
Michigan St. Although this squad is clearly the little brother program in their own state, that doesn’t mean they don’t have the potential to make a real run. Coen Carr is enough to make the team one of the most exciting in the bracket, with him jumping like a frog to secure enough marquis to dunk over anyone(except that one photo). Plus, their advanced statistics lend to a team that could go about as far as anyone else.
UCONN— talk about a basketball school no matter if it’s guys or girls, March or May, the UConn Huskies are basketball conquerors. Always do. I think them and Don Hurley can make a real run this year.
Review
It seems that I was largely right about most of these teams, but missed the mark on st johns as they were clearly the better team, as shown when they emerged victorious in a dogfight on Sunday afternoon. Looking back on it, I clearly overlooked their hot streak, going a close 20-1 in their past 20 games. It also seemed I overrated Peterson, who was not all that he said I was in my predictions. I seemed to be spot on about the other three, who are all posed to make a run deep into early april.
