With the winter coming to an end, students are winding up to get ready for spring break. This break is a very rewarding end to the great stretch of school, and I am sure there are plenty of students at school right now getting a little antsy for this spring break to come. Lets ask some people about what they are excited for this spring break…
Sam Abney: I will start off by interviewing myself. This spring break I will be visiting Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. I am very much looking forward to golfing in the Dominican Republic, and hopefully surfing. I am also excited to hang out with my friends and create everlasting memories.
Reed Clendaniel: Reed is very excited for his trip to El Salvador, he has never been to El Salvador so he is excited for a new and refreshing experience abroad. He is really excited to go surf in El Salvador, which is a country known for great surf spots. He is going with a so-called “random group of dudes” , mostly over the age of forty and Reed’s dads friends who are all avid and experienced surfers. Reed says this experience is strictly to surf, and is super stoked to shred some filthy swells. Reed will also likely be taking a train to visit his grandpa in New York City which he has never done before, and is eager to try it out.
Sophia Easterbrook: Sophia Easterbrook is super excited to go to Florida with two of her very best friends. She is going to visit near Flagler Beach in Florida. Flagler Beach is on the east coast of Florida, about five hours from Charleston. Sophia does not know what house she is going to yet, but she knows this is where she will be going. She is very excited to get some sun, eat some super bomb and fire food, and see the pet monkeys that sometimes roam on Flagler Beach. They will be driving to an Orlando outlet to find some good shopping. She says she is looking for clothes from Free People, maybe some Anthropologie, and says she is looking for new clothes this summer and her upcoming college experience. When asked on a scale of 1-10 how excited she is to visit the beach this spring break, she gave us a 9. She is really excited for the car ride to stop and get some good food. She says vibes are always fun on the car ride to Florida. She wants to try out parasailing, but is uncertain if they will have the time on their trip to do parasailing.
Jack Tierney: Jack says he will be in the lab all spring break, he is preparing to go to the gym twice a day, starting his mornings off by eating 12 eggs and 3 pieces of bacon. He will then hit his first gym sesh of the day, then eat a hearty lunch filled with protein and carbs. He will then go to the rec center to get some hoop runs in with his boys. Jack will then chill and recover, then hit the gym once again. These activities will take place during the first half of Jack’s spring break. Jack will then catch up with the boys in La Republica Dominica (The Dominican Republic for those who take French) for the second part of the spring. Jack said he is excited to relax by the beach in the Dominican Republic and thinks his time in the Dominican Republic will be “A movie.”. Jack is looking forward to also possibly surfing in the Dominican Republic, as the city of Punta Cana has some beaches that are hidden gems for surfing destinations. He is also excited for the golf course at the all inclusive resort that he will stay at. It is 36 holes and beach side.
Ms. Renes: Ms. Renes is unsure of what will be occurring during her spring break. She has stated that it is contingent on her family’s lacrosse schedule. Ms. Rene’s husband, Mr. Renes, coaches lacrosse and may have three games to coach during spring break. This may limit the ability for them to travel. On top of these lacrosse games Ms. Renes’ children also have lacrosse games over spring break. If the Renes family’s schedule lines up this spring break they would love to go camping in the wilderness. Ms Renes says her bucket list would lead her to camp around the Clemson area.
Molly Tombs: Molly is accompanying Sophia Easterbrook on her trip to Florida. She is excited to tan out in the rays of sun, and catch some Vitamin D. She is excited to go shopping with Sophia in Florida, specifically at the Free People Movement. Molly’s potential roommates from Chapin, South Carolina are also coming down to Charleston during the second half of Molly’s spring break. She is very excited for the crisp and clear Florida water. She states that she thinks Florida water is the prettiest water and is so excited to return to her so-called happy place. Molly thinks of her trip as a relaxing slow paced trip. They will be able to do what they want, when they want, and just go with the flow.
It’s evident that everyone has something unique to look forward to as spring break approaches. Everybody has their own idea of the ideal vacation, whether it’s surfing the waves in Punta Cana, discovering new spots in El Salvador, lounging on Flagler Beach’s shores, working out at the gym before traveling to the Dominican Republic, or perhaps camping close to Clemson. While some are pursuing new experiences, family time, or financial gain, others are pursuing sunshine and saltwater. A reset, a reward for hard work, and memories that will last long after the tan lines fade are all things that spring break offers, regardless of the destination or the schedule.
