Every year has weeks that can be handled, and weeks that feel like a personal attack has been made against you. With academic demands, social demands, and a constant lack of sleep, there are weeks that can be classified as universally terrible. Based on stress, load, and overall mess, here is a ranking of the worst weeks of the year.
#8 – Spirit Week
During Spirit Week, students are promised enjoyable times but will instead suffer from mild fatigue. Even though dressing up might be fun, doing so entails the usual tasks and academic requirements such as assignments, quizzes, and tests. Having to participate might be awkward, but the penalties will only be mild. In contrast with other weeks of the year, Spirit Week is simply annoying.
#7 – Homecoming Week
It gets to be a lot when it comes to pep meetings, gaming events, social engagements, and school spirit. However, the excitement makes it less horrible and more exhausting.
#6 – The Last Week of School
Academically, the week is light; mentally, it is chaotic. The students are checked out, teachers are wrapping things up, and the overall feeling is suspended, suspended on stress relief. It is not miserable; it is just disorienting.
#5 The First Week Back
Going to school after a long hiatus is a shock to the system. Sleep patterns are destroyed, motivation is non-existent, and classes require productivity from day one. The transition period makes this week particularly difficult.
#4 – The Week Before Semi/Prom
It is a week that encompasses both academic stress as well as social stress. It is a time of outfits, plans, chats, and expectation, as well as academics, making for a particular form of exhaustion.
#3 The week before and after winter break.
Suddenly, every assignment is due before the break, and when school resumes, there’s no gentle transition, just tests and projects. And to make matters worse, cold weather and holiday burnout don’t help.
#2 – Midterm Week
The midterms are accompanied by accumulated tests, schedules, and hardly any sleep. The stress is through the roof, and so are the cups of coffee being gulped. The week is possibly the most exhausting week of the school year.
#1 – AP Exam and Finals Week
There’s no topping it. High stakes, long nights, mental burnout, and months of work riding on a handful of exams – this is the worst week of the school year.
Final Verdict
Some weeks are bad. Some weeks are worse. Some weeks more so. And some weeks? Well, some weeks feel like they were put on this planet to break students. Yet, there is one thing common to all of these weeks. Students will get through it. Most often, students will get through it with a load of coffee, a lot of jokes, and a whole lot of complaining.
