Welcome to Blake Yarborough’s Low country weather report. In this article we are going to cover the weather from January 29th to February 5th.
Well, Gooooodmorning to you weather watchers and Charleston Cosmopolitans. This is Blake Yarborough with your seven day seasonal weather report. We are going to blend meteorological meaning with magnificent metaphors. As January finishes off and we kick off February in our coastal horizon. Our Low country skies will be serenading us with its soft sunshine. Lets walk together next week with my weather wisdom.
Thursday, January 29th- A Mild day full of Mixed Moods.
We are gonna start looking at Thursday, January the 29th. This Thursday is going to be opened with mild temperatures for late January in Charleston, South Carolina. The highs are going to be flirting around mid 50s and overnight it will cool down towards mid 30s which is closer to the seasonal norms. The sun is going to be barely peeping through the clouds. I predict large patches of clouds on Thursday, so it will shift between sunny and cloudy throughout the day. Another low humidity day is very welcomed from our coastal area. The winds will remain low and pleasant which will be nice for a wintery bike ride or jog.
Friday, January 30th- A calm cloudy day
As we reach the end of our week, the cloud cover will be increased heavily and the skies will mark a gracious gray. This Friday will feel a lot colder than normal as these cloudy overcast conditions will dominate the day. There will not be any expected precipitation today but it will be a cool and calm friday.
Saturday, January 31st- Snowy showers and a south shift of temperature
This Saturday the weather caused our semi-formal to be canceled calls for freezing temperature and precipitation. This will cause Charleston to go on a total lock down. Our south-eastern coast is not used to this icy snowy mix that is associated with the massive winter storm which is smashing across the United States this week. The winter storm is trending to swirl inland after it hits Charleston. This will leave us with icy roads, closed bridges, and kids attempting to sled down any hill they can find. The winds are also predicted to rise as this system edges closer to our coast.
Sunday, February 1- The Wet weather arrives while the Cold Weathers on
This Sunday will bring a higher change of rain as the coastal system moves north of Charleston. This will be tied into a national pattern of storminess, rain, and cold. This will be a breezy day that feels wetter and colder than the week before. We may see some road closures still from our snowy Saturday and expect temperatures to remain low. The highs do rise up to low 50s which can help with melting some of the ice. The ocean humidity also seems to rise and makes a large front on Sunday.
Monday, February 2- Brighter Blue Days
On our Monday morning, the weather should taper away and give us a sunny blue sky. This temperature will balance with sunshine and little to no cloud cover. This makes this a weather win after the weekend of snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. This will bring back the tourism rush which we feel is gone for the weekend. There will also bring a cleaner air mass which is being pushed inland after this weather system leaves.
Tuesday, February 3- A Coastal Calm
This Tuesday will experience a clear and low humidity day. This delightful day will be crisp with highs in the low 50s and lows closing in on the 40s. Its a classic January day here in Charleston SC. This will be a great backdrop for an evening walk along any beach you prefer.
Wednesday, February 4th- Sunshine and Clear Skies
This humpday in Charleston will be a sequence of sunshine and stability. This looks magnificent with limited cloud cover and higher temperatures. These golden rays will be welcomed by tourists and Charleston natives. The highs are in the high end of the 50s and lows dipping just around high 40s.
Thursday, February 5th- The week ends with warmth
As our week closes out on this Thursday the conditions will be very pleasant and the temperatures rising very high for January. This is going to be a very sunny day which echoes our recent patterns. Charleston will remain hidden from the clutches of winter.
Looking at our national averages-
While we have looked over Charleston’s calendar of weather we have not looked at the broader United States and how the rest of the country will be dealing with this huge winter storm system.
This massive winter storm has already impacted much of the central US along with our eastern coast. The dumping of heavy snow and freezing temperatures will disrupt travel and cause widespread panic along the US. This has already caused many state emergency declarations.
In closing-
Charleston will stay mostly in the 50s with some overnight temperatures reaching low 40s and high 30s. This is pretty typical for late January when looking at yearly average temperatures. The rain and clouds will be seen from Jan 31st to Feb 1st. This poses a statewide threat as freezing. When looking at our waves and wind conditions we see that as the pressures pick up with our passing storm systems the waves will increase along with the winds.
