Student Stereotypes:
Today, we are going to explore the differences among students here at Academic Magnet, and the type of students we see every day. As a senior here at Magnet, I have noticed that no matter what grade or class I have been in, there are the same student stereotypes. I have talked with students across the nation and internationally and they have noticed the same student stereotypes.
First, there’s the “Overachiever”, the student who arrives early to school before the bell. When you walk in, they have already asked the teacher 10 questions and are sitting with their computer and notebook open. Nobody understands how this is possible, but it always happens. They seem to make everyone else who’s walking in at the bell feel 3 steps behind.
The next stereotype is the person who sprints to class, we call them the “Hallway Sprinter.” You will find these students flying past you with their backpack open and papers flying out. They probably left their last class late because they were taking forever getting all their papers into their backpack. But no matter how late they leave, they make it right before the bell every time.
The next person is the behind, procrastinating student. I call this kid the “I didn’t know we had a test” kid. They say this every period, whether it was announced on canvas or written on the whiteboard for the last week. In every class, they still don’t know whether they have homework or a unit test. Their shock when you tell them that they do is the same every time, as they scramble to study in the next few minutes, or finish their homework.
Keeping it coming – there is always one or two of these students in each class. This student is on the student council, president of 5 clubs, varsity captain of two sports, has a job and still finds time to volunteer on the weekends. They always leave your class 5 minutes before the bell to make it to a meeting and frequently walk in with a celsius or a Starbucks cup. This student is named “The Over-Involved Student.” Everyone respects them, and even if nobody understands how they manage their time, they always find a way to.
Next up is the “Professional Note Taker.” They are found in the front of class with highlighters, assorted colored markers and pens sprawled across their desk. They are writing everything the teachers say, word for word. If the teacher lets out a cough, this student writes it down. If you ever miss a class, this student is the first one to text. A photo of this students’ notes is almost better than the course textbook.
Our final student is someone who claims they do not enjoy school lunch, but you find them head down in their food, enjoying seconds. They look their happiest while holding a chicken sandwich with Charlie sauce, and they defend the cafeteria cooks with their life. Whether you agree or disagree with their takes, their love for cafeteria food is noted.
So here is a final guide to all the student stereotypes you may encounter. Make sure to keep an eye out for these type of students in the hallway!
