We have gotten around to the season where basketball hype has started to ramp up. Workouts and conditioning for the men’s Academic Magnet Basketball team has officially ended and the season is coming to a start. The school has high hopes for the basketball season this year as prospects and new players on the varsity team look promising. New additions to the team should give the team the needed depth and range to concoct a successful season ahead. The recent coaching change also holds much promise for the season ahead, as new head coach Danny Johnson will be leading the team for the upcoming season. There have also been many returning players coming back for their next season hoping to make a large impact on the team’s season, and hopefully help lead to a playoff appearance, or even better, a championship.
The new coach arrival: An interesting addition to the Academic Magnet boys varsity team is the head coach change of Danny Johnson. This off season move was a great addition to the Raptors roster. Danny Johnson was a 6 ‘3 guard who had college experience, playing for Clemson from the 1994-95 season to the 1995-96 season, averaging 0.9 ppg and 3.2 ppg. Coach Johnson decided to make a switch after this season and flipped to the College of Charleston for the 1997-98 season to the 1998-99 season, averaging 7.7 ppg and 12 ppg. Coach Johnson then was selected in the NBA draft by the New York Knicks. A coach with this much coaching experience is bound to bring some of his basketball expertise to the Raptor’s squad. Danny Johnson is also the step father to Jaidon “Bronny” Daley, who will be going into his senior year as a dual varsity athlete, hoping to lead the Raptors to a successful and prosperous season.
Leadership Roles: The new generation of Raptors leaders for this season is nothing like we have ever seen before in raptors history! Senior point guard Billy “Vulture” Baer has quickly become the heartbeat of the Raptors’ offense this season. Known for his lightning-fast crossovers and sharp court vision, Billy keeps defenders guessing while setting up his teammates for easy buckets. Whether he’s threading a pass through traffic or knocking down a clutch three-pointer, his leadership on the court has energized the team and the crowd alike. Coaches and fans agree—Billy’s calm under pressure and unselfish play make him a force to be reckoned with. Senior guard Jaidon Daley has emerged as a true leader of the Raptors, guiding his team with confidence and precision. His ability to control the tempo of the game and find open teammates has made him a key playmaker on the court. Jaidon’s quick decisions and relentless hustle keep the offense flowing, while his defensive intensity sets the tone for the entire team. With his sharp instincts and steady leadership, she’s proving to be the engine that keeps the Eagles soaring. These two players are undoubtedly bound for greatness in the upcoming season, but the real star of the Academic Magnet Raptors team is the great Bennett Bair. Bennett “ole fashioned” Bair has been given player comparisons of Michael Jordan in the clutch with hints of LeBron James athleticism and the defensive impact of Kawhi Leonard. Our professional player projections (PPP) have Bennett projected to average 30 PPG, 15 APG, and 20 RPG. As a Senior guard-forward, Bennett will become the definition of versatility for the Raptors this season, proving to be a difference-maker in every game he plays. Whether he’s running the offense, attacking the basket, or crashing the boards, Bennett does it all with confidence and control. His ability to shift seamlessly between positions gives the Raptors a major advantage, allowing the team to adjust to any opponent or game situation.
On offense, Bennett is a threat from anywhere on the court. He is capable of sinking deep three-pointers, finishing strong at the rim, or setting up teammates with precision passes. Defensively, he’s just as dominant, using his quickness and strength to guard multiple positions and disrupt plays. Teammates often look to him for leadership during tight moments, knowing he can steady the team with his calm presence and sharp instincts. Coaches praise his work ethic, basketball IQ, and unselfish attitude, calling him the kind of player who makes everyone around him better. Whether he’s filling up the stat sheet or doing the little things that don’t show up on paper, Bennett consistently puts the team first making him a true cornerstone of the Raptor’s success.
Predictions: With all of the star power that the raptors possess, a good season is bound to come this season. The Raptors are in a region with Burke High School, Andrews High School, and Philip Simmons High School. Although this region will be challenging for the Raptors, we have faith and confidence that the Raptors will rise to the top and make a playoff appearance. Our prediction is that the raptors come second in the region, finishing right behind Philip Simmons. The raptors play Cathedral Academy for the first game to the season, in which we predict a hefty win for the raptors squad. Next, the Raptors take on Bishop England, in which we predict a narrow loss for our Raptors. The raptors will bounce back however in their third game with a win against Hanahan, followed by another win against Stall. They play Bishop England their second time the next game, in which we predict another narrow loss. They then play Charleston Math and Science, which they will win by a favorable amount, along with the following game against Charleston Collegiate, which we predict will result in another win. Hanahan, Timberland, and Andrews are the next three games which we predict will result in more wins, and a mere loss to Philip Simmons. The Raptors are then predicted to go on a phenomenal streak of wins against Woodland, Burke, Andrews, Timberland, Woodland, and Burke once again. There is one loss predicted in a game against Philip Simmons, bringing the Raptors to an overall record of 15-4.
