We have noticed that the attendance at the Magnet sports events may have been dwindling. While my fellow newspaper writers have been to almost every football game, it seems there has been quite the fall-off from years past. When we were freshmen, almost every game was packed and it was mainly due to the leadership of the senior class. We all need to step up and start going to the games. We have narrowed it down to two reasons why people may not be attending the games. The first problem is not scheduling conflict, but laziness. People just are not mustering up the energy to pack in the car with their friends and attend the game. It is also not due to a lack of performance of our football team. Owen George, our star quarterback, is averaging over 120 yards per game, just in rushing. This is basically a performance of a running back and he still has a whole other position to play. He has a total of 17 touchdowns in only 9 games. This is more than a touchdown per game. Our final game of our schedule is arguably the most important, as it is not only a region game but our homecoming. This game has playoff implications and could dictate whether the team makes the playoffs or not. Despite a recent slip with 4 lost games, we are in for a resurgence to end the regular season on a good note. All-around athlete Campbell Stoklosa may be missing this game, but his presence and leadership will surely be felt. Tyler Perez, who just had a massive game against Phillips Simmons, is going to carry on this momentum. He had a season-high 102 receiving yard performance. This is crazy for a high school football game and is all of the more reason to come to homecoming to watch how this senior closes off his regular season. The defense is also star-studded. It is currently headed by Samson Peters, averaging an astounding 9.4 tackles per game. We predict that he will have an even better performance on Homecoming. Burke is definitely scared of his impact on the game. Will Slenzak also adds to this dangerous combination. He has 4 sacks and is known as the offensive line wrecker. Yet, all of these strong performers will not be enough. We also need people to come to the game ready to cheer. The roaring crowds have great effects on the players, with sources saying that a home game can sway a result by more than 6 points. Attendance affects the games in many ways. A loud crowd means that opposing players cannot hear play calls and cause disruption for their game. All in all, we need everyone to come to the homecoming game to make sure Magnet makes the playoffs. The games are also fun, as you will hear from my friends in the student life section. Spirit week and the pepper alley are a great way to get ready and get hype for the game. We need everyone to come, but I am worried people might not go. We expect everyone to watch our star-studded team and will not be accepting of any excuses.
