On your walk to class, have you ever had to do a double take? Could’ve sworn you saw the same person twice? I promise your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. Here at Magnet, there is no question that there are a handful of look-alikes that are one in the same. Whether it be the same haircut, outfit rotation, facial features, or demeanor, doppelgängers are the culprit of identity mix-ups. If you ask around, I can guarantee someone will tell you they’ve experienced the awkwardness of waving to the wrong person, mistaken tags on Snapchat, or experienced the case of a teacher calling the roll twice. I couldn’t help but wonder, what do these twins think of their shocking similarities, how do they see themselves, and how do they see each other?
Mia Dewey + Trig Northrup:

If you’ve happened to mistake Mia for Trig, don’t worry, you’re not alone. According to Mia, it happens all the time, with Jack Childers being the most frequent offender. Occasionally, they’ll just go along with it for laughs. As they blame their resemblance to similar heights and haircuts, Mia admits Trig has “a bit more aura, sadly”. Mia confessed that the funniest mix-up so far would have to be that she was deemed the female version of Trig. When I asked if they would rather be mistaken for their doppelgänger or never recognized at all, Mia said being mistaken wouldn’t be the worst. “Trig is pretty cool”, though she doubts the feeling is mutual.
Woods Glendenning + “Freshie” Tobias:
When it comes to identity mix-ups, Woods and Tobias have pretty much accepted their fate. Woods claims he gets confused for Tobias, “every day, bro,” and tends to just roll with it. While some say they’re just similar, Woods insists it’s his “aura and the fiery essence of my hair.” Of course, he had to point out their stark difference, being Woods’s “crazy vert jump.” In addition to his doppelgänger, Woods says he’s constantly compared to NBA star Jayson Tatum, having the “same vert and everything.” Woods insists he wouldn’t mind being mistaken for Tobias at all. “I mess with Tobias, so I wouldn’t mind being him”.
Justin Mathis + William Gable

For William, being confused with Justin is a daily occurrence. In fact, he admits he’s gone along with the shtick for so long, that it would feel easier to just be Justin. William claims to not see the resemblance between them despite constant affirmation, yet he can’t point out any differences either. This situation has become so routine that William says he has no choice in the matter, claiming “all the seniors just call me Justin Mathis.” At this point, it’s not just mistaken identity, it’s living someone else’s life.
Emerson Sprott + Olivia Elko

Nominated by an observer with the eye of a “Hawke”, Emerson and Olivia have rightfully earned their spot as Magnet Twin Hall of Famers. According to classmates, they get confused every single day, and honestly, they don’t care to fight these claims. While their interests serve as something distinguishable, they’re collective resemblance to Bella Hadid is undeniable according to their peers. Unlike other pairs that wish to be set apart, these two embrace the confusion with pride: “We love each other very much”.
Zuriel Nyamutsaka + Mrs. Hurt

In one of the more unexpected nominations by an observer, Mrs. Hurt and Zuriel were among the most highly requested candidates for this article. While the resemblance could really add up to “anything”, gender is obviously the only clear difference. But details, details. According to students, the confusion runs so deep, there may be a possibility for identity theft among them. In this case, the verdict was clear: it’s better to be mistaken, especially when you’re mistaken for a legend.

Whether it be haircut, aura, or the cruel deceit of fluorescent hallway lighting, one fact is known: our campus breeds accidental twins. From full-blown mistaken identities to daily mix-ups, these peas in a pod prove that sometimes your closest lookalikes are completely unrelated to you. It can be a teacher, a classmate, or someone you just know goes to your school. When all is said and done, it’s not so bad to be mistaken.
