Week 3 for the NFL held some crazy high intensity games that went down to the wire, but they also held some high scoring games that put shame on the other team. These are a few games that stood out from this weekend:
Even though the Carolina Panthers are one of the WORST teams in the NFL, they surprisingly played lights out this past week. By not only shutting out the Atlanta Falcons, they scored 30 points with the help of their star quarterback, Bryce Young. Bryce threw for 121 yards and ran for a touchdown. The real stars of the show were the defense of the Panthers. They not only kept the falcons to 0 points throughout the entire game, they also had a pick-six touchdown which became a pivotal moment and momentum booster for the team. That wasn’t the only play made by the defense of Carolina as they also recovered a fumble and intercepted another ball that was thrown which led to their victory.
The Minnesota Vikings vs. Cincinnati Bengals game was utter destruction, the Vikings led by Carson Wentz, ex-superbowl champion, defeated the Bengals 48-10. Wentz threw for over 170 yards with 2 touchdowns and with the help of Jordan Mason who ran for over 115 yards and 2 touchdowns, the win was inevitable. The Bengals didn’t have their star QB, Joe Burrow, as he was injured with turf foot. Wentz wasn’t the only standouts player as Isaiah Rodgers had not only a pick-six but he also had a scoop and score as well.
The Washington Commanders, led by Marcus Mariota due to Jayden Daniels injury, defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 41-24. Mariota threw for over 200 yards and threw a touchdown and ran one in himself. The Commanders also ran a punt return back against the Raiders. Even though the star player of the team was out, the team still thrived, proving themselves to be one of the best teams in the country.
Similar to the Vikings and Bengals game, the Saints vs. Seahawks was destruction. Even though Spencer Rattler, the QB for the Saints, threw for over 215 yards and 1 touchdown, his team got destroyed 44 to 13. Sam Darnold, the QB for the Seahawks also threw for similar stats as Spencer but threw 1 more touchdown. And with the help of Kenneth Walker III who rushed for 2 TD’s, the scoreboard ran up. The Seahawks also had a 95 yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter which gave them a early 14-0 lead.
A close game from this weekend was the Ravens vs. Lions game which ended 38-30. Even though Lamar Jackson threw for over 280 yards with 3 passing touchdowns, the Lions still won. The Lions dominated the rushing as they had 225 yards to the 85 yards of the Ravens. Both David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 2 touchdowns against the Ravens. This game was a shootout as they both scored touchdown after touchdown against each other, but in the 4th quarter the Ravens got stopped and were forced to kick a field goal leading to the Ravens to take the lead by scoring another touchdown, putting the nail in the coffin.
One honorable mention is the New York Jets who almost had a generational comeback against the Bucaneers last night. They were down 26-13 heading into the 4th quarter and ended up taking the lead to make it 27-26 but the Bucs kicked a last second field that would decide the game. This kick sadly went in and put an end to the Jets dreams for winning.
