Academic Magnet is a school that attracts students from all backgrounds and even different countries. Some of these people as we saw last year will some to the school to study and make life ling friends. There are also some people who will lurk in the backgrounds of all the photos, dances, and football games. There are two males in particular who have caught the eye of many students here at Academic Magnet. The word on the street is that one of them lives here in Charleston, attending some private school. The other sails around the world on his catamaran and stops into the marina from time to time. Both of these students have lived some impressive lives from what we have heard and seem on Instagram, but they still seemed to not be named throughout the halls. We believe that they have almost a ghost like presence, followed by numerous rumors, yet none of which are confirmed.
The first “Mystery Magnet Man” has been seen at all sorts of Academic Magnet events including but not limited to football games, prom, semi-formal, senior sunrise, etc. We have anonymous sources that gave us pictures of him at some of these events. This mysterious character is believed to live somewhere in the Ravenel/Red Top area. However, we are not certain which school he attends in the Charleston area. After showing Jack Tierney some of our pictures of which he has actually been featured in, he identified the mystery student as someone he went to Porter Gaud with. Despite not knowing the name of this mystery student, the knowledge of him attending Porter Gaud, at least in middle school, greatly narrows our search. We are still left to wonder how and why he manages to get into these events, but with more research and interviews with people that have been spotted with him, we are sure to find out this person’s name along with his reasons for doing what he does.
Jack Tierney, who we previously spoke with, also found this picture from their youth. Unluckily, he still cannot remember the name of his former Harry Potter costume mate. We cannot tell if they are still in close contact as it is possible the beef between Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter carried further than the costumes they dressed up as leading to Jack’s lack of knowledge of this person’s name.
WOW!!!! Some anonymous sources have given us this image. We cannot be more excited to review this image and analyze when and why it was taken. After further analysis, we sadly weren’t able to find out who he was with. Luckily, not all hope is lost because we see the same flowers in the background for both mystery magnet students. Furthermore, we see a CORSAGE as well as the student in a full suit and tie. This leads us to believe that the image could have been taken before prom. This narrows our search to juniors and seniors helping us out.
THIS WAS THE LAST PIECE OF EVIDENCE WE NEEDED!!!! I have identified the other male in this photo to be Billy Baer who attends Academic Magnet High School. We interviewed him and discovered the suspect is Allen Darden, senior at Porter Gaud. After asking Jack, he said this name rung a bell so we are sure to have discovered the culprit.
The first Magnet Mystery Man and the second have crossed paths from time to time but they are still quite foreign from one another. Man number 2 (from what I hear) lives and breathes the dream of many people. The Bahamas, Greece, Norway, and Charleston are just some of the little stops on his journey around the world. His big boat provides transportation from port to port, which in my opinion, is the best way to travel. He has not only one boat though. He also has a 28 ft Sea Hunt which, when he is in Charleston, he takes to Saltwater Cowboys, fishing, cruising, and possibly the Crab House. I’ve been told that he is quite the boat driver and all the passengers that he takes along feel quite safe in his hands. Boats can be very dangerous and it is important that whoever you find yourself on the boat with that you make sure before you depart that they are responsible and know what they are doing. Growing up on a boat at sea has lead this mystery man to become quite the captain. All that aside when it comes to Academic Magnet, he has found himself at Prom. Last year he was set up by his friends, Mateus and Blake, to go with someone who he had never met before. This person was totally unaware of his date until a couple of days prior to the dance. However, at the pictures before, you could see the smile on his face as he prepared for a night that he would never forget.
As you can see in this photo is excited, stoked, and even PSYCHING about the night to come. You could have seen him last year totally cutting the rug, His dance moves were unmatched, they could have come from multiple things. A. his natural athleticism and nack the groove to the music or B. His cultural diffusion and his picking up on different dance moves from different cultures and countries all around the world. Wherever they came from, all we know is that he can dance!!! We hope to see more of the man with no name and maybe y’all will also be graced with his presence maybe at a football game or possibly at prom this year.
While we were only able to discover one of these mystery men here at Academic Magnet, we still are happy to have them at all the events because the few people who have talked to them have said nothing but good things. Whether they are dancing at prom or cruising around Charleston waters, these students have good intentions with their involvement with Magnet and we are happy to have them at our events.
