Throughout my time here at Magnet I have accumulated a handful of helpful tips and tricks that assisted me with my academics. My first tip is when a teacher is going to grade a portion of your project on appearance or neatness use a unique template on google slides that someone else has already created. Teachers tend to enjoy this because your slides are not like everyone else’s that have chosen the default templates. And here’s how you are going to do it:

  1. Google search google slides template (and maybe add a key word that relates to your project)
  2. Click on the page that is Slidesgo.com
  3. Browse the cite till you find one you like
  4. It will then ask if you would like to download this template to your google slides
  5. Then you will click the button that says make a copy
  6. AND now you can edit your template however you like!

My second tip that has saved my grade countless times is quizlet. But, personally do not waste my time making a quizlet. I find classmates that have already created the quizlets and I use theirs to study. A lot of the time this classmate will make quizlets for all the other classes you are taking. To further help you all out here are a few of my classmates that helped me and definitely help you out in the future:

Quizlet Usernames

  1. marlesstudies
  2. evanrunner
  3. evieotis

And a big shout out to them; Mills Jordan, Evan Daniels, and Evie Otis.

Also regarding quizlet there is a trick to take the information from a quizlet and copy and paste it into a google docs.  So here are the steps to take:

  1. Find the quizlet you need
  2. Press the tree little dot button in the right bottom corner
  3. Then press export
  4. Click a modification option if needed (you can even alphabetize your terms!)
  5. Then press copy text
  6. Open a new tab
  7. Pull up a google doc
  8. And press paste

This shoutout goes to Brooks Melton for teaching this one to me.

Another quick little thing I do sometimes that makes my life easier at magnet is pressing the control and F key at the same time. A cursor will then pop up in the top right corner of your computer screen. You will then be able to use this to search for a keyword that is on the page you are looking at. This is extremely helpful in AP Seminar and AP Capstone.

Here is a tip to help you guys out in your literature classes! Use prezi as inspiration for your own projects. Sometimes it is difficult to understand the meaning of certain details about tales and poems, so use this platform as a stepping stone to figuring it out for yourself. A lot of the time with these famous books we are asked to read at this school there are hundreds of others that have read it before you, so it is super helpful to look at their work. And here’s how you do it, it is super simple:

  1. Type in the title of the book, novel, tale, poem, or whatever type of literature you are reading into the search bar
  2. Add the word prezi to the end of it and press search
  3. It will then pull up bunches of prezis to choose from
  4. Choose one and press play
  5. Then the prezi will pull up and you can scan back and forth on the information

This tip may be a little bit controversial because some may feel every class is important but sometimes prioritizing classes is most important for your own well-being. This school is stressful now doubt, so it is good sometimes to look at your grades from a bigger picture. What I have done in the past is pull up powerschool to glance and see what my highest and lowest grades are and what subject they are in. I then prioritize my homework accordingly. For example if I have a math test and a completion homework grade in spanish all due tomorrow and my grade in math is an 89 and my grade in spanish is a 97 I will set aside the most time to study for my math test. I might even save that completion homework for the morning to get a good night’s rest for the test the next day.

An additional trick to keep your sanity at magnet is delete the powerschool app off of your phone! I would suggest checking your grade through your computer and do it less often.

Lastly! Do not be afraid to ask for help. Believe it or not your teachers are there to help you. For example if you email the teacher about how your homework will be late the night before it is due they are likely going to graciously give you extra time. I will have to say that it has benefited me greatly to be in touch with my teachers in person and via email.
