The Science Club has had great success in competitions this week.
At the Lowcountry Science Fair on March 5 Siqi Fang; Francesco Hamilton; Avraham Lieberman, Vedant
Parmar, and Henry Plante; Roger Shi; Yidong and Yiqing Ye presented their scientific research. Roger
won the Regeneron Biomedical Science Award. In the category of Biomedical Science Siqi came in third
place, Francesco came in second place and Yiqing and Yidong won the category.
In the category of
Engineering Avraham, Vedant, and Henry came in first. They also won the overall award and a trip to
present their research at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Phoenix Arizona in May.
On February 28 Tennyson Broadhurst, Zoe Carter, Siqi Fang, Elin Lin, Haoyu Lin, Manda Nguyen, Rajdeep
Palit, Vedant Parmar, Meha Patel, Berkay Sahin, Brooks Traugott, Matthew Westbury, Yidong Ye, and
Yiqing Ye competed at the South Carolina Science Olympiad, coming in third place out of 25 teams.
Individual results were: Anatomy and Physiology: Meha & Yidong in second place; Astronomy: Brooks
& Matthew in second place; Boomilever: Siqi & Yidong in first place; Bungee Drop: Manda & Meha in
fifth place; Chemistry Lab: Tennyson & Yidong in first place; Circuit Lab: Meha & Yiqing in fourth place;
Codebusters: Elin, Rajdeep & Berkay in second place; Designer Genes: Siqi & Elin in tenth place; Disease
Detectives: Siqi & Manda in sixth place; Dynamic Planet: Brooks & Matthew in sixth place; Electric
Vehicle: Haoyu & Vedant in fourth place; Engineering CAD: Rajdeep & Berkay in seventh place;
Entomology: Elin & Manda in ninth place; Experimental Design: Tennyson, Haoyu, and Vedant in tenth
place; Forensics: Siqi & Manda in third place; Helicopter: Rajdeep & Vedant in tenth place; Hovercraft:
Brooks & Matthew in fifth place; Machines: Zoe & Berkay in fifth place; Materials Science: Tennyson &
Zoe in first place; Remote Sensing: Brooks & Matthew in first place; Robot Tour: Tennyson & Haoyu in
ninth place; Rocks and Minerals: Brooks & Yiqing in seventh place; Water Quality: Zoe & Vedant in sixth
place.
