Mary Peyton Combines Social Media and Fashion for her Thesis

Senior Mary Peyton Brown, who recently presented her thesis, looked at the validity of blogging as a fashion marketing tool. She wanted to know if it was possible for a high school student to create a successful fashion blog.

To collect data, Mary Peyton first planned out when she was going to post on her blog and what content she was going to post. She then posted on the blog, Vegan vs. Vanity, and looked at how to increase more viewers and make adjustments to the blog as she determined what viewers liked best. She marketed the fashion blog on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to increase viewers. Through these social medias, Mary Peyton found that she even had followers from different countries that had heard about her blog.

Through her mentor, Mary Peyton was able to volunteer at Charleston Fashion Week. There, she was an assistant to a fashion journalist, Eric Wilson, who writes for the magazine InStyle. Following the completion of her blog, Mary Peyton asked both this journalist and another fashion blogger to review her blog. In the evaluations, the two professionals answered questions on the effectiveness of the blog and gave their opinions on any part of the blog they thought should be altered.
