How did our swimmers do at States?

Varsity+Swimming+State+Meet+2021

Last weekend Varsity Swimming concluded their season with the boys’ and girls’ state meet, and it was a significant success! Both teams did exceptionally well, and everyone saw substantial improvement in their events. Because of the pandemic, the girls and boys had to compete on different days, so the girls swam on Saturday morning and the boys on Monday morning. As a girls’ swim team member, I was able to swim in our session, and then I and some other Captains went to watch the boys swim, so I witnessed all this speed. Out of 21 boys teams that competed at state meet, they got eighth place and out of 25 girls teams that competed at state meet, we got fourth. With that, I will give an overview of both sessions and shout out some fantastic swims!

The girls killed it by placing fourth overall in the state. The best part of all is that we beat Bishop England by 18 points which was a huge success for a time since they have been our rivals all season. Below are some swims that placed top 10 in the girls’ meet!

  • Mia Matthews (12): 9th in the 200 Free
  • Julia Reed (9): 4th in the 200 I.M.
  • Lily Burnette (9): 8th in the 50 Free
  • Paisley Hodges (11): 6th in the 100 Fly
  • Sarah Burnette (12): 8th in the 100 Free
  • Lily Burnette (9): 6th in the 500 Free

The boys also killed it at States. Similar to the girls list, here are swims that placed top 10.

  • Joseph Schady (9): 9th in the 100 Fly
  • Caleb Anderson (11): 10th in the 100 Fly

  • Jack Troy (9): 2nd in the 100 Back

All in all, it was an amazing season and I am sad that it will forever be over for me. I have faith that Magnet swim will continue getting better and better and I have complete confidence that this team can place top 3 in the state in the coming years!
