The Raptor Remix

Music is a pivotal part of raptor culture, whether it’s the dirty birds banging it up at football games , or the K-Pop dance club performing at pep rallies, music connects our raptors. In this article we investigated the playlists of our student body and found out the deepest secrets in their music tastes.
INTERVIEWS:
Charlie: For our first interview, we met up with Charlie Bhat, to ask him what he has been listening to lately. He said his favorite artist was the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, so it made sense that his favorite song, is Dani California by them. What was really interesting though was his guilty pleasure artist being Skrillex who makes EDM music. Furthermore, when asked about the best concert he has been to or that he would like to go to, he said the best concert he has ever been to wasTravis Scott which sounds like an amazing experience.
Favorite Artist Review: The Red Hot Chilli Peppers can be described as modern rock and a blend of rock, punk, and pop. Their most streamed song on Apple Music is “Scar Tissue” released in 1999 which shows the timeless nature of their music.
On a different note 🎶, Sabreen Adem has been saucing it up listening to “All of the Stars” by her favorite artist SZA. She says her guilty pleasure artist is King Von which is a switch up from her bonding with friends over Frank Ocean and Brent Faiyez. Sabreen is a trigonometry master which may lead to her 3 sides of music. She then stated that she wanted to go to Tyler the Creator’s Chromakopia tour which unfortunately already toured in Charlotte this summer.
Favorite Artist Review: SZA – she is a great artist who blends R&B, soul, hiphop, and rap to make her own unique sound. She has some amazing songs including All of the Stars, mentioned by Sabreen, but also other big hits like Kill Bill and Snooze. SZA has combined with multiple famous artists like Kendrick Lamar and The Weekend to make some of her greatest hits.
Paul Simmons enjoys the music of Tyler Childers including Paul’s favorite song, Bitin’list. This song is also in his top 5 most streamed songs on Spotify, so it is a common hit. Most wouldn’t expect Paul to be driving around listening to Megan Maroney, but he informed us that she is his guilty pleasure artist. Her tunes are exceptional and he would recommend her to anyone who sees this. After asking about his favorite concert, he said he would enjoy going to a Lumineers concert again who also happens to be playing at Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island soon which he’ll be visiting!!!
Favorite Artist Review: Tyler Childers is a blend of country and folk and his voice turns head at every corner. His most streamed song is “Feathered Indians” released in 2017 which most likely jump started his reign on the music world.
Let’s keep the playlist rolling and see what Eric Fowles AKA “Mr. 360 Degree Flow” has been listening to. He mentioned his favorite artist to be Ole60 who has some hits like “thoughts of you” and “smoke & a light” which are big on spotify. His favorite is Thoughts of You which doesn’t come as a surprise seeing it is his top streamed song. On the other hand, his guilty pleasure artist is Laufey. While pronouncing her name may be controversial, her music is great with popular songs on TikTok also now being regarded as performative. When asked about his favorite concert, we all could have guessed he would want to go to Ole60, luckily he is coming to Myrtle Beach September 18.
Favorite Artist Review: Ole60 is a country band out of Kentucky who have a big fan base of over 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone. They also mix in a little bit of rock in their country to create their own music that many people enjoy.

Favorite Artist Review: His favorite artist Latto is known for her song “Somebody”. She’s also famous for her looks and has been called out by many superstars including Jeremeiah Smith. This is due to her strength as a hip hop artist and her southern roots that entice many.
Arthur, also known as non evo Blake Yarborough, can be seen walking around listening to Taylor Swift. She and Travis’s recent engagement announcement has shook up the Swift and NFL world further joining their alliance. Unlike some other people on this list, his favorite song is not by his favorite artist. He said it was Too Many Nights by Metro Boomin which is a big hit and can be great pregame music for his baseball games. He would love to go to a Travis Scott concert, so maybe he should ask Charlie about his experience and they could go to another one together.
Favorite Artist: It isn’t surprising that Taylor Swift was someone’s favorite artist on this list as she is one of the most famous singers of all time if not the most famous. She has an extremely large fanbase known as swifties, and they are devoted to Taylor Swift having grown the NFL’s viewership just for the occasional appearances she has when her now fiance Travis Kelce gets a catch. She has consistently been one of the top listened to artists of all time thanks to her amazing catalog as some people may relate to her songs.
We then interviewed Sofia Catindig [not pictured] who informed us that her favorite artist was Lorde making her decision of David being her favorite song make a ton of sense. Her guilty pleasure songs are from the Zombie Disney channel sound track. Which have been really popular over the years. The concert she would love to go to is Olivia Rodrigo which would be a fantastic show as her music is highly regarded, and she is also going to Lorde in October which will be really exciting as Lorde is her favorite artist.
Favorite Artist Review: Lorde has become really popular recently especially her song David. It moves her listeners with her emotional lyrics. She also has a distinct voice and is a very creative artist and has paved a new path for artists following almost creating a new genre.
Mr. Gutting told us his favorite artist was ASAP Rocky who is a well known rapper with a wide catalog of great songs. He then said his favorite song was Think I’m in Love With You by Chris Stapleton. On top of this, his guilty pleasure artist is Katy Perry. His music taste is wide ranging from country to rap to pop. No matter who he is jamming with, Jace would be able to please his audience with one of his many music genres that he listens to. He would love to go to a Drake concert which is also as popular as Blake and I said the same.
Favorite Artist Review: A$AP Rocky is a rapper, producer, and songwriter showing his extreme versatility in the music industry. He creates his own style of music making it very enjoyable to listen to no matter the occasion. I have listened to ASAP Rocky with Jace before soccer games and it does a perfect job getting us hyped up, but also he has more chill options for when you are just trying to relax at the house.
We talked to sharky senior Jack Tierney and his favorite artist is “Uzi no doubt” primarily Uzi leaks on soundcloud and his favorite released Uzi song is “Prices for the intro”. He says his guilty pleasure artist is Katy Perry. He shares this with his friend Jace Gutting and his favorite song by Katy Perry is Firework and he loves to sing word for word. His favorite concert he wants to attend is the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert because of the song Freebird. He fantasizes about seeing this song live.
The last person we talked to was Caitlin Farr who enjoys listening to the Goo Goo Dolls, so it makes sense that her favorite song, Iris, is by them as well. Her guilty pleasure artist is Tate McCrae who is considered to be a great artist by many, She would want to go to a Coldplay concert,. I have gone to one over the summer and would recommend it to everyone as it was a great experience.
Favorite artist review- The Goo Goo Dolls are known for their blend of rock and pop with their biggest hits being Iris, Slide, and Name. They started in Buffalo, New York and have grown to 36 MILLION monthly listeners!!! This unbelievable achievement is what sets them apart from other bands making this favorite artist a great choice.

Charlie-7/10 for his variety in music taste we listened to Skrillex and were already familiar with Red Hot Chili Peppers helping his score. Skrillex unfortunately didn’t fit our music taste but music is different for everyone.
Sabreen- We give her a 9/10 she has a very diverse music taste. We are both big fans of King Von and frequently play SZA so we had to give a 9 because we rock the same music as her.
Paul- Were gonna give him a 8/10 for a strong core but he loses points for having no variety in his music which isn’t a problem just doesn’t meet our criteria.
Eric-6/10 lack of variety as his concert is the same as his favorite artist but he does show loyalty and picked good artist
Cole Ivey 5/10 I mean wow this is one dangerous post it might be enough to win back everyone and hit 5 homeruns.
Arthur- Were gonna give him a 6 for his tiktok ball knowledge. He seems to follow the crowd and like the basics.
Sofia- We decided to give her a 7/10. We tried out Lorde and we were surprised by the greatness but then we tried the zombie Disney Channel sound track and immediately turned it off.
Jace- Were gonna give this a 9/10 great variety and great choices in music.
Caitlin- We ended up giving her an 8/10 with a decent variety and an interesting catalog not everyone may have heard of.
Conclusion: After reviewing everyone’s playlist it is safe to say the Academic Magnet High School campus has a unique and diverse taste in music, but we can confirm everyone has a valid opinion in who they like considering the amazing chats we have had about music with various students.
