Girls Varsity Tennis:
The girls tennis team is a forced to be reckoned with this year as they are the AA state champs. Although they are without their star studded Chloe Trowman who led the team last year to the championship win, Sophia Easterbrook and Emma Mairs hope to continue the legacy of the girls team. Tenacious, this team has what it takes to win another one, so you all should know their names when they win.
This year the team has changed a little bit. On the Varsity team is Leah Bagg (SENIOR), Victoria Carabus (11th), Eliza Dargan (10th), Addie DeFord (11th), Sophia Easterbrook (SENIOR), Archer Fanning (9th), Finley Frenkel (10th), Emma Miars (11th), Kamya Pham (10th), and Maggie Schwartz (10th). These ladies are dialed and when I saw, Senior, Sophia Easterbrook in the hallway she seemed confident saying, “We got it this year” and also stated how “proud she was of the team’s growth” as she believes will translate to a second State Championship in two years.
Their season has already started out with a bang as they have began with a second place finish in the First Serve Tennis tournament where they competed in a stacked field where they ultimately lost to Wando. They hope to get their get back later in the season as their schedule indicates them playing head to head twice more. This Rivalry could be one to look out for so if you can come support.
Emma Miars, a high ranking player on the team, encourages, “young players just joining magnet to come tryout and play some tennis.” This is a great point for all new students to Magnet, in that we are very inclusive in all sports so if you are worried that you are unable to play for varsity, there are typically options to play JV.
