Although Halloween has many exciting aspects, finding a costume is an endeavor that causes many people anxiety every year. I have compiled a list of what I believe will be the most popular Halloween costumes of 2024, also serving as some inspiration if you have not decided what you will be on the 31st.

Predictions for the 10 Most Popular Halloween Costumes (in no particular order):

Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader
Due to the newly released Netflix docuseries about the cheerleading squad for the N.F.L. team, the Dallas Cowboys, this costume will be trendy this year. Although this costume has been seen before, I believe that after many people, including myself, watched the series, they realized that these cheerleaders are more than just great dancers; they are often called “America’s Sweethearts.” This costume consists of the famous long-sleeved dark blue shirt tied into a knot, white shorts, pom-poms, and white cowboy boots. Extra points if you learn their famous routine to the song “Thunderstruck”!

Chappell Roan
This talented American singer-songwriter quickly rose to fame in 2024 and is known for her unique, costume-like style and catchy music. She is also very popular for her “realness,” as many would say, especially when at a music festival, she calls out a group of people, stating, “It’s so weird that V.I.P. thinks they’re so way too cool to do this!” Chappell Roan’s costumes would most likely consist of her red hair paired with one of her most famous looks, as seen below.

Inside Out Characters
Inside Out 2 was released on June 14, 2024, and quickly became popular due to its comedic characters and relatable themes of growing up. The original five characters are joy, sadness, anger, disgust, and fear. This sequel added four new emotions, anxiety, embarrassment, envy, and ennui(boredom). These characters would be an easy option for a group costume as each person could dress up in the color of the characters or who they identify with most.

Love Islanders
This costume would be an excellent option for couples, groups, or an individual (girl or boy). The newest season of the beloved “Love Island” series jumped to the number one streaming TV Show in the United States for several weeks. Some of the most popular characters are Rob, Leah, Kendall, and Liv. An easy way to mimic these islanders could be to recreate their reunion outfits, follow their makeup routines, or simply throw on a mic pack. If I were to recreate one of these characters, I would be Rob and wear overalls with a pretend snake to complete the look.

Cheetah
One of the most prevalent fashion trends right now is Cheetah print, especially the sparkly mini cheetah print shorts seen all over TikTok. This costume is relatively easy; you need a piece of clothing with a cheetah print, ears, and a tail. Many individuals also add some sort of makeup mimicking this animal print. Also, this costume can be more unique by adding a party hat—now you are a party animal!

Sabrina Carpenter
This star’s fame began in the hit show “Girl Meets World,” and now she is touring the world performing her new album, “Short n Sweet.” Carpenter is known for her sparkly, feminine performance outfits, possibly a great costume. She has many different variations of her outfits, allowing for a unique ensemble. As long as you have some purple or pink sparkles, blond hair, and maybe a microphone, you will look just like Sabrina!

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
Although this costume was trendy last year, its “reputation” will continue through Halloween 2024. Taylor Swift is arguably the most famous female in the world right now, and her N.F.L. player boyfriend, Travis, is beloved globally. Dressing up as these two would be a great couple costume or even a group costume if you wanted to include Jason Kelce and Kylie Kelce. For Taylor Swift, I suggest dressing as one of her eras (most popular are Lover, reputation, and Folklore) or one of the outfits she wears to attend the Chiefs games. If you are dressing as Travis Kelce, simply throw on his jersey and maybe some eyeblack. This costume will be everywhere this Halloween season, hopefully manifesting an upcoming engagement.

Chipotle Burrito
Although it may sound surprising, you will see a lot of Chipotle Halloween costumes walking around on this upcoming holiday. Chipotle recently released a line of Halloween costumes they created with the Spirit Halloween brand. Some of the costumes are a wrapped burrito, a Chipotle brown paper bag, a Chipotle cup, and a Chipotle napkin. If you are a comedic person and you love Chipotle, this would be a great costume for you. The best part is that all you need for this costume is the one piece from Spirit Halloween for the low price of $39.99.

Jojo Siwa
Jojo Siwa has always been a name everyone has known. Beginning with her Dance Mom days, then to the release of her album “D. R.E.A.M.,” she’s been seen as a childish girl who loves pink and glitter. Then, sometime in the last year, she started to trend again for her bizarre change in personality and style, releasing an album called “Guilty Pleasure.” She went from wearing bows every day to dressing in all-black, otherworldly costumes. Siwa has become a meme on TikTok for her humorous, blunt statements in the media and her rare style. A Jojo Siwa costume could consist of her most famous look, including black and silver clothing and some scary black makeup, as seen below.

I hope this article inspired and predicted this year’s Halloween costumes. Although there will always be the classic witch, black cat, and ghost, I look forward to seeing some unique, creative, and niche costumes on the 31st. But costumes aren’t the only part of Halloween; some other popular traditions are costume parties, candy, and haunted houses. Communities often host events like parades, haunted attractions, and festivals, making it a celebration that brings people together in a spirit of fun and fright.
