Meet the Boys Varsity Soccer Team

A Preview of the Season

After a disappointing end of season last year without a playoff run, the boys are ready to get back on the field. Last season, the team went 7-3 in the 3A region and 9-3 overall. Although their season concluded with a big win over Oceanside, the 2021 COVID sports rules only allowing two region teams to go to playoffs prevented the boys from going all the way. However, they are ready to make a comeback this 2022 season.

Like, the girls, the boys are participating in the Charleston Soccer Shootout, facing teams like Lucy Beckham, West Ashley, and MayRiver, just to name a few. Aside from the tournament, they have a couple of preseason scrimmages, one against James Island, who won the 4A state championship last year.

This year, the boys are led by seniors Daman Wegner, Anden Evans, Jack Hill, Jake Meyers, and Evan Nash. Like the girls, they are looking for their first state title after several successful seasons. These 5 are joined by 14 juniors and 2 sophomores.

We talked to some of the boys and Coach Jason Hamil about the exciting upcoming season. Here is what they had to say.

“We will not accept mediocrity” -Kofi Ayiku

“Ring Season” – Turner Orvin

“I think we have a really strong team this year and a great chance of making it to the playoffs, unlike the past season, and even winning state.” – Jake Myers (12)

“Although we lost a few seniors this past year, we have a ton of juniors stepping up and making the majority of the team. I’m excited for the future of the program.” – JB O’Neal
