A note to our readers

Through reasonable dialogue these problems can be resolved.

Freedom of speech is extremely important to me. Allowing students of differing political and moral beliefs to express themselves is imperative. The Talon does not represent my beliefs , but the individual interests and beliefs of each individual writer. Recently an article was published that grew much attention questioning the beliefs of many at the Academic Magnet. Some found it to be offensive or even anti-Semitic or racist.  I am ultimately responsible for publishing articles and I read each article closely. Although I may not have personally agreed with the writer’s thoughts, I found it was not anti-Semitic or racist.  If I had, I would not have published it. Because of the concern raised over that weekend, I pulled the article. I have had many (of varying ethnic groups)  read the text of the article since the general consensus was that although it could be construed by some to be offensive, it was not anti-Semitic nor racist. Some felt that the article needed more context, more facts, and a better explanation of the writer’s beliefs. I apologize to anyone who was offended by the article as that was not the writer’s intent nor mine. I ask that all concerns in the future be directed to me and to the staff writer of an article in question. Through reasonable dialogue these problems can be resolved.
