Girls’ Varsity Soccer Takes Down Bishop England
There was a flood warning on the Don Holt last night as the Bishops headed home crying over their 2-0 loss to the Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team. After losing a close game to the Bishops in March, the Raptors went into this rematch with a point to prove. As usual, the Raptors dominated the game, maintaining the majority of possession, winning balls out of the air, and creating many more chances than the Bishops.
The Raptors went up in the first half with a beautiful through ball from sophomore Abby Tickle to freshman Riane Coman, exposing the Bishops’ defensive weaknesses. Riane showed incredible composure in front of the goal, taking a touch around the keeper and finishing. The Raptors were up 1-0 at half. Then later in the second half, with her superior speed and tenacity over the BE midfield, junior Megan Lamontagne chased down a Bishop to win the ball at midfield and assisted Abby Tickle’s amazing goal. Abby took on 3 defenders 1 by 1, made fools of all of them and nailed the ball into the back of the net to put Magnet up by 2. Defensively, the Raptors’ unmatched aggression shut out the Bishops’ lackluster attack.
Out-battling the Battling Bishops, the Raptors walked away proving themselves the better team and adding to their long list of wins over the Bishops. Now, as the Raptors focus on the rest of their season and prepare for playoffs, they face the possibility of playing the Bishops again for Lower State on May 9th, so if all goes well, Raptor fans, start clearing your schedules.
