Volvo Car Open

On April 1-9th, the Volvo Car Stadium, formally known as the Family Circle Cup, held their 44th annual women’s WTA tennis tournament. The prize money is $687,900 and this year, because of the Volvo sponsorship, the tournament winner received a volvo car. This years winner, Sloane Stephens, admits her surprise at winning this tournament because usually she does not get past the first round. Her opponent, Elena Vesnina of Russia, is ranked #51 Women’s WTA Tennis Player, while Stephens is now ranked #21 in the world. The score of this final game was 7-6, 6-2. The game that brought Stevens to the finals was against Angelique Kerber of Germany, who retired in the second set of their game, allowing Sloane to move on into the final round. After an intense match, the two finalized this tournament while demonstrating the success of Volvo’s integration into the sponsorship of this tournament.
