This year has already been a great year for movies, with Snow White, Captain America: Brave New World, The Brutalist, and so many more! Even though 2025 has already been marked by many of these great films in just the first couple months, there are still so many more to come. From action to remakes to sequels to animated movies, there is surely a release for everyone!!
Set to release on May 23 is the Lilo and Stitch live action adaptation! For those of you who aren’t familiar with the original story, it follows an independent Hawiian small girl (Lilo) who becomes friends with a strange extraterrestrial animal named Stitch. She slowly cares for him and changes him from someone who was very rude to basically her best friend, and then they go on to solve adventures and have fun together! It emphasizes the power of ohana (family) and how everyone deserves a place to belong – definitely a very heartwarming story!
Fans of the previous movies in this series are sure to be anticipating the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth on July 2 this year. It’s a standalone sequel to “Jurassic World: Dominion” and set five years after the events of the previous film, yet still introduces new characters and plot lines within the Jurassic World universe. One of those new characters is Zora Bennett, played by Scarlett Johansson, who leads a group of operatives to a new research facility where they then try to get dinosaur DNA to help save humankind! This is sure to be full of mystery, suspense, action, and many plot twists!
Wicked: For Good (aka the second half to the previously released “Wicked” in 2024) is going to be released on November 21, 2025!!! If you didn’t watch the first part of the Broadway adaptation that released last fall, I would be sure to do that before you revisit theatres to see the second part! It’s about two women (Glinda and Elphaba) who are very different in nature, but slowly grow closer and closer together. They live in the magical world of Oz, but then eventually Elphaba is declared the enemy and is on the opposite side of Glinda again.
Also coming out in November is Zootopia 2, coming out on November 26, only 5 days after Wicked: For Good. The story will feature Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, the same two main protagonists from the first movie, as they go around solving mysteries and crime throughout Zootopia. In this instance, the creature they’re hunting is a reptile who’s caused a lot of damage, but not a lot of other information has been released yet on it so you will have to wait until November if you’re interested in learning more!
July 11 is the set release date for the new Superman movie! This one will be different from prior movies because it focuses more on Clark Kent’s early life as a journalist rather than his more well known traditional origin story. However, it will still eventually reach the point where he becomes the Superman we all know so well as he struggles to balance his superhero side with his regular life from before.
There are so so many more movies coming out in 2025 like Karate Kid: Legends, How To Train Your Dragon, and Smurfs that weren’t featured in this article, but are sure to be very interesting to watch so make sure to keep an eye out for some of those other ones as well!! It’s going to be a great year for movies!
