As we all know, prom was this past weekend, and it’s safe to say it was an unforgettable night filled with music, laughter, and memories. This year’s event was held at Founders Hall in West Ashley, which turned out to be a beautiful venue for such a special occasion. The venue featured a large indoor area where the DJ set up, the dance floor was full of energy, and the crowd stayed moving all night long. Outside, there was a patio space with turf, tables, and lights, giving everyone the perfect place to cool off, relax, and enjoy the live music performance by Bring the Hype.
The official dance started at 7:30 PM and ended at 11:00 PM, with the prom court nominations and winners announced around 9:30. The night had something for everyone, from delicious food and drinks to great music and festive decor. One of the most memorable touches this year was the masquerade masks. In keeping with the event’s “Masquerade Ball” theme, a variety of masks were provided at the entrance for anyone who wanted to participate in the fun and mysterious vibe. Toward the end of the night, themed souvenir cups filled with candy were placed near the exit, allowing everyone to take home a small memento from the evening.
Of course, no prom experience is complete without hearing what others had to say. Talia Barsness spoke for many when she said, “Prom was very hot.” With everyone packed into the main building, dancing and jumping around, the temperature inside definitely climbed, making it a bit overwhelming to stay on the dance floor for too long. Still, the energy remained high, and people found ways to enjoy both the indoor and outdoor areas.
Sophia Benich reflected positively on the night, saying, “The night was fun,” and added that she thought the DJ did a great job keeping the vibe going with some strong music choices. Her only minor critique was that she wished the DJ had played “Cotton Eyed Joe” a little longer. Meanwhile, friends Sousa Waggoner and Elizabeth Hample had mixed feelings, sharing that they “liked last year better because the vibe was better for dancing.” They noted that while Founders Hall had a turf section similar to last year, it wasn’t where the DJ was, so it didn’t get much use. “There was too much space, and the space you had to be in for the DJ and music was hot and not it,” they explained.
Katie Sheffield shared, “I thought the masquerade was a good theme because it was mysterious, but last year’s venue was a lot better.” Finally, Joey Schady summed up his experience by saying, “I had a great time, and I miss my voice,” which he had to type because he had literally lost his voice from all the fun.
All in all, prom this year was certainly a night to remember. While this was the last big hurrah for the seniors, I am sure that prom will continue to remain one of the most memorable and exciting events of the year for many students to come.
