One of the most exciting events for people with no hobbies is coming up: The Met Gala. Fashion’s biggest night is taking place on the first Monday of May 2025, and is, as always, taking place at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Theme and Chairs

The theme of the exhibition this year is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” There are twelve sections to this exhibition, including: Ownership, Presence, Distinction, Disguise, Freedom, Champion, Respectability, Jook, drinking, Heritage, Beauty, Cool, and Cosmopolitanism.

The co-chairs for this year’s gala, whose roles are to organize the entire event, guest list, and even dinner menu, are Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Vogue’s own Anna Wintour. Basketball star Lebron James is serving as an honorary chair this year as well.

There are several notable stars on the host committee this year, such as: Ayo Edebiri, Doechii, Tyla, Janelle Monaé, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Usher. The role of the host committee is to foster interest in attendance and increase the event’s overall success.

Attendees

Attendees this year aren’t yet confirmed, but those who aim to be a part of this great tradition are expected to pay the price, fortickets for the gala cost around $35,000 and tables range from 2 to 300,000 dollars. Guest regulars we typically see at the Met Ball are likely to return. Faces like The Kardashians, stars such as Blake Lively and Jennifer Lopez, and runway models Gigi and Bella Hadid are usually in attendance, however Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have confirmed they will NOT be attending this year amidst the legal battle with Justin Baldoni. There is rumored to be an influx of athletes this year, as basketball player Paige Bueckers’ name was mentioned among the rumored attendees. Guests who attend are expected to abide by the set dress code which is what makes the Met Gala such a special occasion. The dress code that has been decided on for this year’s event is “Tailored for You” which is focusing on menswear and the importance it’s had on the gala in the past few years.

What goes on inside?

The Met Gala has a strict no phone policy, so photos of the inside are typically selected by professional photographers and don’t reveal the ins and outs of the event. There are usually a few performers, last year’s performance was by superstar Ariana Grande, and they have yet to be revealed yet. It could be guessed this year’s entertainment will probably be by one or more black performers, and as some are already on the host committee, there might be some familiar faces making appearances.
