With the end of the school year coming up, seniors especially are having mixed feelings about their last days in high school. Some are reminiscent and are sad to leave Charleston, others are very excited to get out of their comfort zones and explore new places, and I think a lot of people fall a little under both categories. With this in mind, here are some fun things to look forward to for the end of the school year for those seniors who are a little sad about everything coming to a close!!

PROM!!! This is a very exciting school event that all juniors and seniors get to participate in each year. It’s a chance to have fun with everyone all together, and to maybe hang out with some people who you wouldn’t ordinarily. Especially for seniors, a lot of them get prom houses and spend whole weekends with their friends! I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the end of the year than by enjoying quality time with some great people! It’s also a good way for fashion-oriented people to really step out and it’s always fun to see what everyone ends up wearing. From dress/suit shopping, house planning, food organizing, picture taking, and so much more, there is definitely a lot of work that goes into the whole prom process, but I would say it really is worth it!! Also reminder: vote for prom court and make sure your guest forms are done!
BREAKS!!! April 11th is an early release/teacher workday which is a fantastic start to this year’s spring break. School will be closed from then until the 20th of April, which sadly concludes this year’s spring break. However, this is something that many students, seniors and otherwise, look forward to every year as a time they can spend relaxing away from the stresses of their schoolwork. I know I do! Whether you spend it at home, going on family vacation, spending time with friends, picking up a new hobby, or simply getting some well deserved sleep, this is by far one of the best times of the year! DECISIONS!!! While college is definitely a source of anxiety for those who haven’t yet decided, and even for some of those who have, I personally am excited for decision day to arrive on May 1st! It’s a fun and exciting way to celebrate the accomplishments of all of my fellow classmates, and a good way to make connections with people who may be continuing their academic journey in similar steps or the same colleges you are! The application process was grueling for so many people, with countless essays to write, scholarships to fill out, and so much more, so this is a great way to finally feel a little bit of relief that the most stressful part is over with.

AP PICNIC!!! Just the day after Decision Day is the annual AP Picnic on May 2nd! This is always fun for the whole school to be together and enjoy all of the amenities that the school provides as a fun treat for all of the work that the students put in every day towards their academics. Whether you like food trucks, fun games, music, or anything in between, the AP Picnic always has something for everyone to enjoy! Additionally, around this time yearbooks generally start to be handed out, and personally I love getting my yearbook and getting to look through it with my friends back at all of the memories we made this year! Although I don’t normally get my yearbook signed by everyone, I think this year as a graduating senior I definitely plan on making the most of that opportunity to record some of my memories and favorite people! Additionally, speaking of celebrating all of your accomplishments, there is a whole school awards ceremony on May 2nd. While there are still many details to come, this is something to mark down on your calendars!
SENIOR TRIP!!! Myself and many others signed up for this year’s senior trip to Disney. Some of the activities we will be doing include participating in fun dinners, going on rides, exploring the parks, hanging out with friends, and so much more. Each senior gets to choose from one of the Disney parks so that everyone can go somewhere they’re interested in! In addition to the parks themselves, there is also a part of the trip where the senior class gets to go to a waterpark! Recent alumni shared that the hibachi dinner they had at Disney was one of their favorite parts of the trip, so that’s maybe something fun to consider if you’re a foodie!! More information has been shared with everyone via Canvas as well as by important lecture hall meetings, so look into that for more information on this upcoming trip!

GRADUATION!!! This is the day many seniors have dreamed about for a while…finally walking down the stage to collect their diploma and continue onto the next stage of their lives. It’s a rite of passage that marks the end of your high school career, but the beginning of your next stage in life as well which is so exciting to consider! Additionally, graduation celebrations or graduation parties are an exciting way to celebrate this!! Whether just a small dinner with your family or a big party with all of your friends, graduating is something to be proud of, and something to be celebrated. In order to do so, make sure you have your cap, gown, and everything else you need!
In all, senior year is definitely stressful in the beginning with applications, but it has really flown by so far! However, it is easy to feel like the last days are dragging on as many people are just excited to continue on to their college lives, or at least to having fun this summer, so this list is essentially a reminder that there’s more than just exams left. Besides AP exams and STAMP testing, there’s a lot of celebrating to do for those things, so it all balances out eventually. Let’s have a great rest of the year raptors!!!
